Sukkot

This was the first year that mom came with me to services for the holiday. Her day care center was closed for it and so I thought it would be a good test to see if she could sit still for such a long service.
I must give credit to one of my congregant friends for reminding me to offer the luluv and etrog to mom to shake. Mom was all smiles and joy as she held the holiday symbols and recited the prayer for them.

I must admit if I had not asked what was holding, I would not have recognized any of those green things. I am totally a cement person. That means other than apples or oranges or cherry I have no clue what the names are of plants or shrubs etc. I would not have known about the cherry if it had not had the story of George Washington chopping one down. I have no clue how to identify types of trees either. I am a dedicated, provincial proud NYC dweller.
