Let Me Be That Light

There is a beacon burning bright
Leading ships in from the night
The safely guiding light
A blessing to the sight

A lifeline during storm
When darkness doeth form
Guiding ships to safety
Inside a quiet port

Let me be that light
Leading souls in from the night
Giving them quiet rest
In Jesus to be blessed

The ships so tempest-tossed
The souls in sin so lost
To bring them in from the night
Let me be that light

Let me, dear Lord
Be that life-giving cord
To pull them from the sea
And forever be in Thee

Let your Word through me so shine
To pierce the depths of night
To be the final saving line
Let me, Lord, be that light

Help Me Help Them

In the evening time of day
Before in my bed I lay
On my knees I pray
Each word to God I say

Oh Lord in humbleness I come
Asking what must be done
Praying I might reach some
Missing or overlooking none

In all sincereness I plead
For all you came to bleed
And in your darkest hour
Came the Greatest Power

Just one simple thing I ask
Strength to do your given task
I'll follow wherever you lead
For there lies the Greatest Need

For to some I am a guide
Trying to lead them to your side
I must try to win
The millions still in sin

This one simple plea
Lord, please grant it to me
The souls are such a precious gem
Help me help them.

Sharing Lives

This world's view of treasure
is gems, and silver, and gold
God's view of treasures
are values the Bible does hold
It speaks of serving Him on earth
and pursuing things from above
Of faith, truth and ministry
but most of all of love
In short, it speaks of sharing lives
for Christians not to be alone
Assembling ourselves with Godly friends
making our needs known
Love means taking a risk
for potentially being hurt
It is enduring and forgiving
when others are vicious and curt
God's treasures are not material
but blessings from others of whom we are a part
This takes a sacrificial will
and mostly a servant's heart
It means exhorting and bearing burdens
suffering along in someone else's pain
There is much of yourself that you lose
but far more that you gain
God's treasures are our lives
His blessings are our friends
Being a friend is sharing openly
something that wasn't yours, in the end

The Family Bible

Does your family Bible sit high upon a shelf?
Or decorate a coffee table all by itself?
Does it have a page of names, dates and lines
Births, deaths and memories recorded throughout time?
Who started this custom, I wonder?
It turned out to be a colossial blunder.
For instead of turning to it in time of need,
Or as a guide for every word and deed
We jot down family history inside the cover
And for advice, turn to another.
We wonder what's wrong with society today
Truth is, we've allowed ourselves to be led astray.
The Bible is God's answer to everyday life
The words inside, not just for pain and strife.
It's time to take those Bibles down from the shelves
Open them, and take them into ourselves.
So as we record our family history inside,
Let's make sure God's record in our family history abides.
Not as a book collecting dust,
But living and growing inside each of us.
