The Cigarette Customers
About 75-80 percent of the Hen clientele fall into this particular category. The typical cigarette sale begins with a customer throwing random change on the counter and demanding a pack of cigarettes, typically Marlboro's. I don't get a "please" or "could I have a pack of Marlboro's?" No. They're always bitchy and they say "gimme a pack o' Marlboro's." I'm tempted to say that cigarettes have been discontinued. Then, when they hear the price, which at this second is $3.95 a pack, they complain even more. "I remember when they were $1.50 a pack" and things like that. Apparently they think I have something to do with deciding the price of cigarettes. And they still keep buying them. What is the method to their madness? I wish I knew.
