Summit-Westfield Alumnae of
Delta Gamma

Last updated 4/24/06.

Welcome to the home page of the Summit-Westfield (NJ) alumnae chapter of Delta Gamma women's fraternity, www.geocities.com/hannah_dg. You'll find news here that may not be in our newsletter, and vice versa. During the "school year," it's usually updated at least once a month (though our webmaster's been careless this season -- sorry!), so please bookmark this page and come back often!

Our chapter's sisterhood spans a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and geography; most of our membership is from Morris, Somerset, and Union counties, but also from Essex and Middlesex counties. Programming is very diverse, ranging from celebrating the history and rituals of Delta Gamma and its Foundation, to dine-outs, book clubs, a White Elephant Auction, and a holiday party. We support our philanthropy through fund-raising, label collections, donating old eyeglasses, and craft projects. We meet monthly, usually on the second Tuesday, usually at a member's home; during some months there is more than one activity. A light dinner is provided for a nominal charge to accommodate members coming straight from work. Sometimes our meetings are held at a restaurant. This is a great group of women with whom you can be yourself. The environment is casual, and we continue to encourage new ideas and suggestions. To learn more about us, feel free to e-mail or call any of the officers prior to our meeting. Our contact information is listed below.

Officially Speaking
In addition to the contact information in our printed Directory, you can contact our chapter officers on-line:

President Gail L.
VP Catherine W.
Treasurer Wendy P.
Secretary Sara S.
Also our Webmaster Karen Ann K. Or drop a line to our chapter's mailbox for more information on meetings, joining our group, getting on our e-mail newsletter list for more complete meeting details, or to ask any questions you might have.

Our meetings have moved to a "constant" date: generally the second Tuesday of each month (with occasional variations). This is a result of requests by many members to once again have a regular "DG night" around which to plan.

Don't forget that we collect your used books to sell on Half.com to raise money for DG Foundation. Please only bring books in good condition -- hard covers sell best, but good quality paperbacks are OK, too.

Meeting Minutes In April, after some subterfuge, we met at La Pasteria in Summit to surprise Nancy with the Delta Gamma Cable Award for her years of unbroken service to the Fraternity. PAC Blaire was there to make the presentation.

DUES NEWS This year, we hope to increase our dues-paying membership. Dues this year are $42.00, as EO's per capita dues were increased to $18.00 person and Region 1 dues are $1.00 per person. Summit-Westfield will use the remaining $23.00 for our projects and philanthropies.

We've introduced a new, exciting way to pay dues this year -- online via PayPal (the secure online payment system used by eBay). 24/7, anyone with an e-mail address and a PayPal account can submit payment directly to us online. (It's easy to open an account; go to www.paypal.com for instructions.)

How to pay via PayPal:
Go to www.paypal.com
Click on the "Send Money" tab (you will be instructed to open an account if you haven't logged on)
Enter deltagamma@att.net in the "Recipient's Email" field
Enter the amount you wish to pay
Under "Type." select "Service"
Enter "SW Dues from (your name)" in the "Subject" field
Hit "Continue"
You will have a chance to verify your payment before submitting
Using PayPal to submit dues is easy and convenient, for you and us! If you prefer not to pay online, you can always mail a check to me or give them to any officer. We currently have 18 paid members. Thanks for your support!!

DG means Doing Good. Campbell's "Labels for Education" program lets schools redeem labels from the Campbell's family of brands for much-needed educational equipment. Delta Gamma collects thousands of labels nationally for educational equipment for several schools for blind children. Although we send the labels to Executive Offices at the beginning of February, collection is an ongoing, year-round project. For the latest list of eligible products and the package parts to save, see Campbell's Web site. Also, we can recycle used eyeglasses through New Eyes for the Needy. We're collecting books on tape for eventual donation to a suitable beneficiary, such as a home for the aged. We are selling used books and CDs on Half.com as a fundraiser. These items are collected at all meetings.

And if you're looking for a volunteer opportunity, you can be the "substitute eyes" for a blind or visually imparied adult by becoming a Friends of the Blind volunteer. Help with reading, writing correspondence, banking, bill paying, shopping, errands, and socializing; two to three hours a week are required. No experience is needed. For more information, call 973-538-5260.

Looking for links? We've strengthened our ties to other Delta Gamma and Philanthropy sites on the World Wide Web, so we've moved the entire list here. Be sure to check out Delta Gamma's fabulous revamped website at deltagamma.org!

High-tech Fund-raising! Summit-Westfield alumnae have an account for selling items on Half.com, the eBay "bookstore," to boost our treasury. Our "seller ID" is deltagamma@att.net. A book that was donated the night of the White Elephant meeting sold the NEXT day on Half.com for $8!! Please keep us in mind when you finish reading that great hardcover book! Bring your gently used books, DVDs, VHS tapes, and CDs to any meeting, or contact Gail to arrange to drop off your donations. All items must be in good condition, but don't need to be perfect. See our "About Me" page at http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/deltagamma@att.net. Big thanks go to Gail for managing this process.
