Alice Helen Webb was born January 25th in New Milford Connecticut. She grew up spending most of the year in the Florida Keys and summers at the Farm in western Pennsylvania. Since graduating from Wellesley College, Alice has been working around Boston at various software companies developing software and websites. She owns a condo in Back Bay and enjoys reading, quilting, and shopping at Ann Taylor. | David Stirling Greer was born June 1st in Sanford Maine where he lived his entire life until attending University of Maine in Orono. After graduating from UM with a masters in Electrical Engineering he gradually worked his way south to Massachusetts working for several hardware firms designing ASIC's (chips) for computers. Dave enjoys spending time at the lake, playing the guitar, building computers, playing golf & tennis, and playing computer games over the net with his friends.
Alice and Dave met at the Condo warming party of a mutual friend. They exchanged email addresses (the techie equivalent of asking someone for their phone number) and ended up on their first date at the Border Cafe in Cambridge. Over dinner it came up that Dave was looking for a wife and was interested in starting a family. Alice was busy pursuing her career, moving up the ranks of middle management, and had no interest in either of those options. The date ended with a polite variation of have a nice life. Somehow the situation was salvaged enough to lead to a second date and then a third and obviously everything worked out in the end.
Everyone always asks about the engagement. It wasn't a complete surprise. The first time Dave mentioned marriage Alice hyperventilated and had to stop shopping for the rest of the afternoon. Dave persisted and eventually got Alice to visit a few jewelry stores "just to see what she liked". The big moment came June 23rd, 1988. Dave made dinner reservations at the Top of the Hub. He ordered a bottle of wine and after the waiter left said, "I'd like to propose a toast, actually I'd just like to propose." and presented Alice with a beautiful diamond engagement ring which incidentally was just the one she wanted. |
