Clearing your cache .
This is how it works for me . your PC may be set up differently but the basic functions should be the same
if a PC suddenly slows down firstly dont panic
It could be that something is scanning in the background .
It could be that something is updating itself. nothing you can do but wait it out
you should of course run the virus scan or even a spyware thing like AdAware once in awhile
but you must of course exclude spyware which normally rides in on cookies. cookies are things that are needed to view a page properly but some sites have spyware on cookies . some harmless some not . they track your movements across the web. Cookies are things that are necessary to view a page on certain sites eg to read a hotmail you must enable msn and hotmail cookies
When surfing the web what I understand is that each time you view a page a copy goes into your computers cache . This must be cleared out regularly or the PC will in time be full of unwanted rubbish and start to slow down.

MIE 6
Another way is to go to start ( bottom left hand corner ) scroll to programs , Scroll up to assessories , scroll down to System tools and use the disk clean thing but be careful not to delete major files . explore it abit and it will tell you whats safe to delete whats not safe .
in the same area you will also see Disk Defragmentation which has to be run regularly . This function helps to push all the files in the PC together so that the system doesnt have to spend time searching for what it needs to use to function
This speeds up the running of the PC . If you are like me constantly loading and unloading graphics or editing stuff then you have to run the defrag often . If you have never done it be prepared it may take over half a day . I ran it for one buddy and because she had never done it it took about 18 hours to compact her PCs files
I think if you are on the web alot then you must be prepared to do a defrag at least weekly . maybe let it run and go to sleep wake up and switch it off
But this should be done after clearing out the cache
Im no pC expert but I Hope this helps
