HOW to Hotlink photos
I'm no comp expert but here goes. IM afraid its long winded .
Some browsers are set such that you dont see what another person sees even at the same group/forum . At a hamster forum I frequent for eg there is a lady who uses mozilla ( cant spell it sorry ) instead of Microsoft Internet explorer and for her the reply window shows different features
I'm using windows XP and Microsoft internet explorer 7
I do whats is known in forums as hotlinking . That is when pictures are based at another site but I type in codes that allow it to appear on the other forum . Im not sure about now but in the past photos I stored in my geocities account ... well Im not sure if i did anything wrong but I couldnt hotlink it to other forums even if I knew the codes.
But i can display a geocities stored photo to a geocities page
I think http://photobucket.com/ does . so first you open a photobucket account
At the forum site itself if I want to hotlink pictures from photobucket.com I must first load the pictures up to the photobucket account .
Photobucket has resizing available which allows users to shrink the pictures to a size they consider suitable for posting on eg message boards , general web pages , email and blogs .You will see this when you click on each individual picture
Some people prefer their own programs inside their own computers for resizing but thats another story... this is because when pictures are fresh from the digital camera for most part they are HUGE . And many monitors cant cope with that
Each photobucket picture has three codes supplied under the picture
1)URL Link ( used when you dont want the page to take forever to load so you just post the pictures address . the http: whatever dot com is known as a url .. URL means the address of that item you want to display )
2) HTML Tag ( internet pages , photos etc have something known as a html code. thats the language in which the codes are typed out and the thing appears on the web ) . type one space wrongly and the whole thing doesnt work .
3) IMG Code ( used mostly for message boards like http://hamsterhideout.com )

Something thats off topic is that most codes have an opening code eg
on occasion codes like that for spacing dont need a closing code < br > ( no spaces between the br )
Because this is confusing .. photobucket supplies the codes for the correct type of forum, all you need to do is point your mouse over it and click and its copied and when you paste it on the reply window for eg at the forum it transfers all the codes needed over ).
you have to be aware that people who receive site postings through email cant hotlink . You must visit the forum site itself to be able to hotlink ( i think this info is correct at the time of typing haha )
the site isnt cooperating tonight as i type so i cant take a picture of the rich text editor reply window to show you
now msn groups reply windows at the site itself come in two forms
1)Plain text only ( this is the option you tick if you want to hotlink ) Use Plain Text editor you should see < div > < /div > ( no spaces ) .. sometimes not
Reply window pops up
2)rich text editor which does it all for you by clicking the display or insert image icon on top . However some computers like mine cant hotlink through this option *sob*
Or if you are starting a new discussion then at the general forum page click new discussion
Actually its easier to show you on a PC than write alot of rubbish on an email . but if you follow the instructions it should work, However you must be able to open 2 windows for this to work : 1 for photobucket 1 for the forum or whichever site you want to link the pictures to
Pardon my lack of words .
I hope this helps . I dont blame you for getting confused because it took me forever to learn
