Milo
This is our dear Milo ... or Milololo as we coo in one of those hammy moments . This page is a tribute to the hamster who was named after a chocolate type of breakfast drink . He came to us in August of the year 2002 so we are guessing hes about 16 months now .( as of Nov 2003 )

Autobiography

Yo fom Hamsterville .

Im Milo a Winter White Dwarf . My little master stinks as much as my potty does but I dont reallycare . I came to my humans when I was at my cutest . A 2 or 3 week old ball of fluff .

I used to have a temper . I would often screech and stomp in my litter when my food bowl was moved and didnt like that hand in  MY CAGE .Back then they were terrified of my fangs .

My humans soon found that carefresh wasnt for me because often they would put in too much ad i could not be seen, except when i poked my nose out .

Im not fussy about my meals really . Right now my humans are abit fussed up because I have become slim in my old age and they are trying to stuff me with cottage cheese ( not thta I am complaining ) ...

Im quite good natured now and I have often heard my pets boast that Im the tamest of the lot .

My only regret is that I will die celibate as I have never had a girlfriend . The ones above my cage squeek alarmingly when Im raised to nose them .

11th Nov 2004
Milo just went to the rainbow bridge about half an hour ago . He will be missed . These last few months have been painful for me. I saw him develop a tumour in the belly but decided aginst the aggressive approach because i knew he would not survive the surgery . I kept him happy gave himwhat he wanted .The kids and I went to my parents place last night because some cousins had come to SG .

I honestly dont know what gave me this urgent push to go home ahead of my kids .

I was out briefly in the afternoon to get my mom's Xmas present and decided to stay in instead of walk out for dinner .I brought him out of his cage and let him sit on my belly . He spent some minutes grooming then settled down to rest .

I dont know why but I just sensed the end was near . He slept on my belly for more than 30 mins and got his massage and neck rubs.

Once in abit he would look at me as though weary of the world about him . I put him back into the cage and he went to the mug to rest .After my shower I went to lookout for him again and found him dying in the toilet . His eye was covered with sand.

I knew it was just minutes before he left for the rainbow bridge . I tried to gently rinse the sand out of his eye and when I was drying that part of him he died .I will miss Milo very much .

I swear that they know they are going . I swear too that if they want goodbyes and last minute attention .I mean its odd. Milo had this habit of running top speed on his wheel whenever I came into the room ... this would carry on until I picked him up .

Only after that would he go back to his normal activity. The day he died despite the huge tumour on his belly andd obvious fatigue , he ran on his wheel frantically stopping every few mins to see if I was coming.

I realised that he was desperate and picked him up . He looked normal but something told me he was on his way out . I gave him time on my bely petted and massaged him then after a last minute spurt of energy an d grooming . He settled under my palm to rest .

Once in awhile he would look up at me . Then he drifted off to sleep and to the rainbow bridge. A last good bye ? Maybe . Its been more than one pet lover who told me he waited for me to come home to say his good byes . Maybe animals have more sense than we give them credit for .

As I type this out Im just days away from my 38th birthday and I still cry when a pet dies. Sometimes I wonder ...whether its better to NOT have loved or whether its better to love and have lost if you know what I mean . Losing a furball hurts so much. I know for sure I will go on keeping hamsters as long as I can afford them. Life is too bland without the love of a small furry animal .
