All About Me

Well, in reviewing my previous "All about me" section of this page, I realized something: it wasn't very bloody interesting. I made myself bored. (Now that's pretty bad) So now for something completely different...

I've lived in Vancouver my whole life.  In spite of the insane weather, the taxes, political bureaucracy in all levels of government and the generally belligerent people, it's a nice place to be.
I went to a public high school where the students were insanely competitive, but somehow walked out of the flames unscarred. My favorite high school activities were music (I was in the band [flute], jazz band [alto sax], and choir [second soprano]) and throwing things [javelin and discus].

I am some of the following at most times: harmfully optimistic, fierce yet too compromising, hard on myself but not depressive, and incredibly nostalgic about things I never did and objects I never owned.

Something good about being me: My mind wanders into different universes. Drugs are of no use to me. My ability to daydream also makes me an easily amused girl. There is never "nothing to do" in my world.   But there is something bad about being me: I tend to dismiss things that most would consider unfortunate as fate or optimistically turn them into something beneficial. This is good for my mental state, but sometimes I wonder if it's bad for my life.

I really enjoy: web design, taking pictures with my digital camera, and playing with Flash. I am serious about wanting to do something of the sort after college, so if you are an employer who happens to be looking through Princeton web pages to find eager web designers, please email me!

Job: Underpaid English teacher with the Visa Language Institute. Honestly, I love my job. I get to meet people from all over the world, and then spend all day talking to them. Sure, I have to teach icky things like grammar, but I feel as if I'm learning from them as well: culture, food, fashion... and now I can say "Cheers" in five languages!

When I'm not at work, there's piles of things I like to do in my spare time. For starters, I'm a bookworm. I've read the Harry Potter series a few times; it's a fantastic read. I've also read a fair pile of Japanese literature. (Interesting factoid: Natsume Soseki, Japan's most famous author, is on the 2000 yen bill) I'm also a huge William Gibson fan, and I'm waiting ever-so-patiently for more words from him. His next book is entitled Pattern Recognition, and should be available this summer. Wade Davis writes about his travels and experiences as an ethnobotanist. Read The Serpent and the Rainbow- it's infinitely better than the movie.

I also enjoy watching movies. Lord of the Rings blew me away. It's like they were reading my mind! Except the balrog- it was way scarier than I'd imagined. My favourite movies also include "Casablanca", "Breakfast at Tiffanys", "Bladerunner", and "The Princess Bride".

My musical tastes are wide and eclectic.  I love everything, from Bach to Marilyn Manson.  I absolutely despise country music.  As I write this, I have Paul Oakenfold spinning on the CD player.

I've also been taking yoga lessons for a few months now. I really enjoy it, as it's very relaxing, and helps me to focus. Helpful, since I'm always so scattered, and can never stay on one topic for long... I get distracted way too easily. :>

I'm also a gamer. (There, Matt, no more closet) I've played in several games, though I've never tried running one before. Currently, I'm playing Mystere in a DC Heroes game, run by Mr. Byron Clairoux, our resident evil genius. Also, once he gathers enough players, I'll be participating in Matt's Tribe 8 game.

I'm also slowly becoming addicted to anime. I've always liked it, but now I'm getting weekly fixes of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and "Martian Successor Nadesico." I've also begun reading the great comic strip on Megatokyo.
