Memories
Sometimes when you're feeling down
as we very often do...
remember when you were a child
what you did when you were blue...
Perhaps, you would go to the attic
for something you might see...
open Grandmother's hope chest
with laughter full of glee...
First you'd try a hat or two
and then the high heel shoes...
before you knew it
lost and forgotten were your blues...
You'd look at all the pictures
of folks both old and young...
thinking of pretty love songs
that they had often sung...
She had so many magazines
and books that she treasured...
many letters from her children
that always gave her pleasure...
Then you'd look into a velvet box
with beautiful rings and pearls...
a lovely golden locket
inside, a picture of you with curls...
Your wildest dream as that young child
was to wear her wedding gown...
one bright summer day
when you were altar bound...
When you grew up and became a young lady
the Indian summer was upon you...
your nice young lad from summer camp
went home and left you blue...
The winter came and then it went
and so did many letters...
perhaps he'll come again this year
and you'll wear his school sweater...
From that day on you lost your heart
to the wonderful boy from camp...
he worked all summer to make you a gift
it was a beautiful stained glass lamp...
He asked your Father for your hand
you wanted a summer day...
remembering dreams to wear Grandmother's dress...
pearls and ring and her garter so gray...
The June day came and you were happy
not a care in the world for you...
because you and your true love would
always be together and true...
You knew right then what you would do
if one day you became full of gloom...
you'd visit Grandmother's home
go up to the beautiful room.
