"The single
most powerful statement to come out of brain research in the last twenty-five
years is this: We are as different from one another on the inside
of our heads as we appear to be different on the outside. Look around
and see the infinite variety of human heads...know that on the inside such
differences are even greater - what we know, how we learn, how we process
information, what we remember and forget, and our strategies for functioning
and cooperating."
- R. Fulghum, from It was on fire when I lay down on it |
Effective teachers of the Gifted and Talented acknowledge the unique characteristics and backgrounds of the students who enter their classrooms. Each gifted child brings into the classroom a personal conglomerate of experiences, perceptions, ideals, and aspirations. Curriculum must be designed in ways that take into consideration such varieties. One excellent way to accomodate the needs of the Gifted and Talented is through the use of interdisciplinary units of study. The goal of this site is to present precepts and theories guiding the design of interdisciplinary units specifically geared for the Gifted and Talented student, as well as to provide an example of a miniature, completely web-based, interdisciplinary unit of study.
