The reason I'm including this in my site is because I
firmly believe more education needs to brought forward.
Society tends to turn their heads in disbelief and this
could be partially to the fact they simply are not well
informed. The other portion of society chooses not to
believe this could happen to their little girl,
or sister . It can happen to anyone.
I am a survivor of abuse and this is why I feel it so
very important to get these messages and information
out to you...the "mother, sister, aunt or best friend."
After 3 years of abuse I finally walked away with the
disturbing words of an officer. See, I was trying to be
the good little wife coming to the defense of her husband.
I kept telling the sherriff I didn't want to press charges
and I kept my vow of "til death do us part." He turned me
around and quickly added, "Yes, and your death is just
around the corner!" Well, that made me think real hard of
what I was doing and what it was doing to my boys. I did
not want them growing up thinking this was a "normal" way
of life and of doing things. I decided quickly it was time
to go. And yes I went through the, "I can't possibly do
this on my own and raise these kids!" or "he'll just find
me again so what's the use?" I called my mom, packed up
me and the kids and were gone by 8am the next morning.
This was in 1989. I am now happily re-married for 4 yrs.
(as of 5-20-00). I truly consider myself one of the "lucky-
ones. I have a wonderful life now. And yes, it did take
sometime, a lot of tears, a lot of questions & wondering,
but it was all worth it! Whatever I had to go through
I went through it with peace of mind knowing I had no one
there to riducule my every move, thought, etc.
