There are lots of travel sites on the web. These are a few that I visit fairly often, or that I found useful when I was planning my trip to Europe.
www.artoftravel.com This site offers to tell you "how to see the world on $25 a day." I like the writing, and it has good information.
www.eurotrip.com This site is aimed at budget backpackers. They are sponsored by a company that sells Eurail passes, and have several good pages of information. I mostly go here for the message boards, because they're fun to read, and people give lots of advice. It was quite reassuring when I was first thinking about travelling, and it's a good place to remind me of my trip now that I'm home, too!
www.journeywoman.com This page is aimed at women who want to travel. It has good articles.
www. priceline.com This is a good site for budget travel. The trick is to be willing to be a little bit flexible, and to do a little research ahead of time. But I've gotten cheap plane tickets, and also really cheap car rentals and hotel rooms. I've also sometimes just been out of luck. But you take your chances. Beware, though: you cannot cancel, and you cannot change once you've paid!
Travelling Alone This page talks about overcoming your fear of travelling around the world all by yourself. It includes interesting thoughts.
Device-Free Method I haven't tried this, but if you're a woman, and you think you might need to pee standing up, and don't already know how to do it, this is the site for you! (I wished I knew how to do this when faced with half a gallon of coffee on my stomach, and a squat toilet in a Paris cafe!)
Tent City This is a cheap place to stay in London. I haven't tried it, but it might be worth considering, since it's normally so expensive to be in London!
And here are some sites by fellow travellers:

I chose to take a tour with Contiki, which is specifically for people from 18-35. They are a pretty good company if you are happy to be on someone else's schedule and travel with a LOT of other people. The guides are excellent, and the people on my tour were cool. A warning, though: if you're not a crowd person, or if you want to be on your own schedule, a tour might not be for you! But if I were to go on a tour again, I'd choose Contiki.
