My Journey into Witchcraft started when I was very small.
I was interested in magick because of "I Dream of Jeannie" and
because of "Bewitched." I wanted to do magick and pretended I
could do magick all the time.
The Goddess played a role in my life when I joined Rainbow Girls
at the age of 13. I felt connected to something larger and female
and it really touched me and would carry me through the years.
The occult also played a part. At the time I was in Rainbow Girls
I was also interested in fictional occult novels. I read Stephen
King among others and "The Omen" series. My mother ended up throwing
away my books because she was a fundamentalist Christian, but
the occult stayed in my mind for a long time.
It was a long time later before something significant happened that
would influence me to becoming a Witch. I met a Witch in the Air Force
and instinctively knew what she did and that she was a good person. She
became one of my closest friends. But I still hadn't made that critical
step into Witchcraft yet.
I married my husband and he was into Numerology and Tarot and I became
interested too. I became quite adept at Tarot and almost all of my
readings panned out. As of now I've been doing Tarot for 21 years.
I got away from Christianity and felt something missing for most of the
years of my marriage. I developed my own ideas about the universe and
spirituality and how everything was connected. I shied away from religions
and called myself an agnostic.
In college, I learned a lot about different religions in a course on
Comparative Religions. I felt some kinship with Buddhism, but not much.
Then I was stationed overseas in Germany with my husband. I met a wonderful
woman, named, Marion. She was learning about Witchcraft and kept saying
that I was pretty witchy. I insisted I was an agnostic and wanted no part of
religion.
Eventually, we returned to the states and my daughter indicated she was
interested in Witchcraft. Bells and whistles went off in my head. If she
was going to learn this stuff, then I had better learn it too. So I bought
my first book, "To Ride A Silver Broomstick," by Silver Ravenwolf.
I was astonished. It was everything I had come to believe in when I developed
my own spirituality. It was Rainbow Girls again and being in touch with
the Goddess. It was the occult and magick all over again. And most importantly,
it connectedness with all things. I had come home.
I continued my study and practiced Witchcraft for a year and a day, to see if
it really felt right. And Oh Boy, Did It!
I waited until my year and a day were up then gave myself a magical name that
the Goddess had given to me through my friend, Marion. I felt blessed and could
now proudly call myself a Witch.
Since then I've continued to study and practice and have added other forms of
magick to my repertoire besides basic Witchcraft. I now do High Magic,
ChaosMagick and advanced Witchcraft.
My magickal name has changed several times, like shifts in the weather
and some of my beliefs have changed as well. But I still enjoy Witchcraft and
today can hold my head up high when someone notices I am a Witch.
