My Power Animals And the Meaning of each.

Phoenix – The Phoenix symbolizes my constant “death” and rebirth every year due to depression and coming out of it. Also, it symbolizes my growth as an enlightened being, witch and person. Dragon – The Dragon is my powerful dark side. I have an affinity for snakes and serpents (my daughter and I currently have a beautiful 6 foot boa constrictor named Diamond) and I have a lot of dreams about them. Always they are trying to eat me but I’m not afraid. It symbolizes the Snake Ouroboros eating itself and shows the infinity of the Universe, ourselves and life.

Cat – I grew up in a Christian household and my mother was afraid of cats and wouldn’t let me have one, much less pet one. But, I was fascinated by them and finally was able to get one as an adult. I had several but one stayed with me for 15 years (Fido, well, alright I know it’s a dog’s name, but we thought it was funny at the time). I learned cat language, manners and protocol, and to honor the Goddess Bast.

Wolf – The wolf is important to me for several reasons. First, my mother told me she named me after a dog that was named Kelly. It was a heroic german shepard. I was insulted at first but later when I was a witch, I came to view it as a blessing. I’ve met wolves and almost like cats, I find them fascinating. They’re powerful animals, fierce fighters, and loving caretakers of the young and injured. I learned this from them.

Eagle – The Eagle has taught me that I’m a powerful person and to not use my power unwisely. I also value my freedom as an American and as a Native American and see the Eagle as a symbol of that as well as higher spiritual aims. Obviously the eagle feather is very important to Native Americans, especially warriors, and I consider myself to be a warrior.

Black Widow Spider – Finally the Black Widow Spider. This is a big one for me. I was bit by a Black Widow Spider when I was 5. I almost died and was in a coma for 3 days. Later I learned that Native Americans would view this as a gift and say that the spider had given me some of her power. The spider symbolizes enormous power and creativity. Some view the Goddess as being Grandmother Spider, who weaves the web of the universe and binds us all together. The hour glass on her belly is a symbol of infinity which ties in with my other power animals, the Phoenix and the Dragon.

Dolphin – The Dolphin goes along with being autistic. Dolphins and autistic people get along very well. Plus, autistic people love the water and like to play in it. Also, the Dophins playful attitude and smile are infectious. Dolphin has been with me a long time, since I was little.

Horse – Horse, I learned was one of my power animals when I was 14. For some unknown reason I started Whistling to horses that were my neighbors. Since then, I’ve been able to talk to horses and get them to come to me ever since. Horse symbolizes freedom and power and this is very important to me.

Crow – The Crow came to me when I started Witchcraft. I asked the Goddess for my magical name and for some reason Crows started coming in from all over the place. Then my friend said I was a Phoenix and I looked it up on the web to find out if there was any correlation with a crow and found out that one tribe had a Phoenix called the Red Crow. Crow has been very important to me. It always come to my house and calls and I listen to it. It’s dark color is a symbol of creation and it’s voice calls to the heavens.
