World As Myth and Robert A. Heinlein

Robert A. Heinlein coined the phrase, “World As Myth.” Basically, it means that fictional places are real and we’re fictional too. In one of his books, “The Number of the Beast,” Heinlein also called it, “Pantheistic Multiperson Solipsism,” or better yet, we’re a bunch of gods, making our own worlds who in turn make us.

As far as I know, I’m the only person on the face of the planet who believes in World As Myth, and I don’t know why. My theory as to how it came about was this: Our universe is the beginning and the end. In the beginning was the word (so it says in the Bible and for some religions, this can relate to thought) and the word was God. That means that something already existed to make other universes. We, once we were created then created them by being the word or God. If you’ve read my page on Creative Physics, you can understand this by realizing that Cause and Effect will be turned around, or are already turned around. This is something that will happen in other universes too. It goes like this: Cause, effect; cause, effect; cause, effect…then cause goes backwards (in a universe that’s turning inside out) and precedes effect which is back in time. But what also happens is that cause literally goes beyond space time and causes other universes.

Now, what is the cause of another universe. Literally thought and will. We create these universes by imagining them when we make religions and books and other genre that people would consider fiction. They, in turn create us down through their time-lines.

So, what’s in store for us if we believe in World As Myth? Well, first of all, if you believe in it, that probably is where you will go when you die. We do travel out of our bodies and many people who have had near death experiences have described Heaven or other places depending on their particular religion. So if you believed, for example, in the J.R.R. Tolkien universe, and that was your firm belief and you really thought you would go there when you die, then chances are, that’s where you go.

What else is possible? Well, machines that travel through time are coming (not anytime soon, mind you). And it is possible to use these machines to travel to other universes. How would you feel if you met one of your storybook heroes? How would he (or she) feel about you, knowing you had read about him. It would be interesting.

Finally, the last possibility is that of making universes “made to order.” How would you like to play God, make a universe to your liking and then go live there. Talk about Heaven!

Just a few thoughts and it’s something to consider. Many of you probably will disregard my theories, but I hope to reach even just one who would consider the possibility. Who knows? Maybe I’ll see you in my next life in the Star Trek universe.
