Dipti's eyes were examined by a neuro-opthalmologist last week. He identified the affected nerves and recommended for the natural healing to complete, at least through November 2000, before considering medical procedures. He recommended artificial tears to help keep her eyes moist and devoid of swelling and irritation. He also recommended an eye-patch to help keep it exposed to light all the time and drying it in the absence of full natural tearing. Dipti is scheduled for re-examination in two months.

NOTE: We apologize for not updating the progress for almost a month. There was another emergency in the guardian's household and the guardians had to go to India on an urgent trip for a few weeks. The good news is that Dipti can now walk without the braces and move about the house almost like before. She also goes around the block for a brief walk. Additionally, she has begun studying for her unfinished coursework that was interrupted due to the accident. This has, without a doubt, raised her spirits and given her added hope, and it shows from her radiant visage.

Dipti continued her weekly speech and physical therapy. The doctors have reduced her physical therapy sessions from twice a week to once a week. Dipti attended her weekly physical therapy session on March 6th. She also attended her twice a week speech therapy sessions on March 6th and March 8th. On March 10th she visited a plastic surgeon who informed her that her lips and chin will return to their normal shape within a year.
