Emergency Shelter Program
Offers safehousing and counseling to women and their children who are victims of domestic
violence. Victimes of physical violence who are in immediate danger receive first priority
for services, but we also assist victims of emotional and/or sexual abuse.
Non-Resident Counseling Program
A counseling program for victims of domestic violence who are not current residents of the
La Casa shelter. Individual and group counseling is offered on an ongoing basis, as well as
advocacy and case management. Program has been in existence for 15 years.
Children's Program
Provides counseling, play therapy, advocacy and recreational activities to children of
battered women, as well as parenting classes and support to the parents of the children
in the program. The program has been in existence for two years.
Men's Program
A 26 week program for men with a history of partner abuse, either self-referred or court
mandated. This program provides participants with information and practical tools to change
those values, beliefs and behaviors which support the use of physical, verbal, emotional or
sexual abuse. The program has been in existence for seven years.
Transitional Housing Program
Provides up to 24 months of rental assistance to residents of the La Casa shelter seeking
to become independent and in need of transitional housing until they are accepted into
permanent Public or Section 8 Housing. Starting in late Spring of 1998, we will be providing
intensive case management services for clients of the program, thanks to a recent Homeless
Continuum of Care award. This program has been in existence for five years.
South Valley Outreach Counseling Program
Provides counseling, outreach, advocacy and case management to residents of the South Valley
of Dona Ana County who are experiencing domestic violence. The program also offers group and
individual children's counseling for children of domestic violence victims. The program has
been in existence for six years.
Domestic Abuse Response Team - DART Program
This program provides a domestic violence advocate to accompany law enforcement officers
on domestic disturbance calls, and provide on-site advocacy, support and referrals to
domestic violence victims and their children. This program has just received start up
funding through the STOP VAWA program last year and has been in existence for eleven months.
Education and Prevention
La Casa provides community education and prevention activities to raise public awareness about
domestic violence issues and about the services for domestic violence victims and their
families offered by La Casa. La Casa staff are available to give presentations to school,
church, professional and community groups. La Casa has been providing these services for 17
years.
