Purpose

Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority promotes standards of excellence in morality, ethics, and education. It works to better serve the needs and wants of all people by disseminating information about the diverse culture we share. The sorority maintains respect for the views of others through this valuing, thereby enhancing our understanding of one another and bettering our community, our country, and the world.

Morals and Ethics

As members of Sigma Lambda Gamma we display good sound moral judgment at all times. We are considerate and kind to all poeple, giving people the same respect we would like to be given. As a member of Sigma Lambda Gamma we always represent sisterhood, remembering individual actions reflect on the sorority as a whole.

Community Service

Our community services are intended to help others in our communities. Our services should be viewed as a way of contributing to the betterment of our community. Participating in community services helps us respond to people's needs through listening and uderstanding.

Academics

The success and recognition of Latina women depends on our education. We, the future leaders of this country, have the opportunity to pursue a higher education. Sometimes it may be necessary to seek help from others like tutors, professors, and our sorority sisters in order to obtain our degrees. A solid education is one key to our future. It opens doors for us, lets our voices be heard, and enables our dreams to become realities.

Cultural Awareness

Sigma Lambda Gamma believes that Culture is Pride, Pride is Success. Exploring the richness in tradition of Latina culture that encompasses the heritage of Native Americans (North, Central and South), Europeans, Africans and Asians and their multiple and interesting mixtures, we celebrate the diversity of backgrounds of all the members of our sorority. Through these efforts of cultural awareness, we expect that each woman will explore their roots and traditions, and share those with other members so that cultural understanding and respect are promoted. We hope to create new traditions so that future generations of college women find their college years filled with pride and joy in the celebration of their identity and heritage.

Social Interaction

As members of Sigma Lambda Gamma, we have the oportunity to be open to all types of positive social interactions. Engaging in social interactions helps us not only to understand others but also ourselves. Although we all have our own individual differences, we must be able to be accepting and open-minded of the actions of others. 1
