Hunted

she hides in the darkness of the room

feeling the eyes upon her, she lowers hers.

there is no hiding, now,

her bare neck proof she is a stray,

an unowned pet,

ripe for the picking.

They come suddenly,

with sweet words,

cajoling, pressing close to her

she shrinks further away.

looking up at Their hungry faces

her enormous eyes filled with fear,

her heart filled with loss and grief.

"please," she whispers,

lowering her head to their calls.
