Keats' Family Virual Library

This page is dedicated to the memory of Andrew Carnegie, John Adams, and John Mercer.

This page's icon is a photograph of the stained glass window in the rotunda of the formerAitken Bicentennial Exhibition Centre (ABEC), the former Saint John Free Public Library, a Carnegie Library. Rexanna proudly worked for the ABEC for several years.

John Mercer, George Washington's lawyer, was a documented lodger at the home of my 7x great-grandmother, Sarah Packe. He took over as the tutor of his ten-year-old nephew, George Mason, when George's father drowned in a Potomac sailing accident. "Mercer had one of the most extensive libraries in the Colonies, and Mason immersed himself in its collected wisdom. He had virtually no formal schooling and essentially educated himself from his uncle's library." In 2002, America honored George Mason with a bronze sculpture and memorial in Washington. "George Mason IV, author of both the Virginia Declaration of Rights and the Virginia Constitution, [was] honored by Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist and other dignitaries for helping shape our nation's democratic principals.

President John Adams is the president who signed into law the Library of Congress.
