Random Acts of Kindness
Sometimes the smallest gesture can mean the most. Here are some ideas that might inspire you
to take a detour from your usual routine to bring a smile to someone else.
- Give a friend a back rub.
- Pay the toll for the car behind you.
- Toss a few coins on the pavement for a kid to find.
- Smile at a stranger.
- Pay someone a genuine compliment.
- Give blood.
- Visit a home for the elderly to play cards.
- Shovel the sidewalk of your favorite neighbor.
- Leave coupons you won't use on the store shelf for someone else to pick up.
- Bake some cookies for the nurses of your local hospital.
- Volunteer to take someone's dog for a walk.
- Send your mother a bouquet of flowers "just because".
- On a cold day, hand a traffic cop a cup of coffee.
- On a warm day, hand a traffic cop a can of soda.
- Send a note to your favorite former teacher, telling them how much you appreciated them.
- Let a few extra cars merge ahead of you on the interstate.
- Stop to buy lemonade from a child's stand.
- Send a relative a festive postcard.
- Put a fun sticker on the envelope of a bill just for kicks.
- Drop off some extra tennis balls at a local playground for the kids to play with.
- Round up your old games to donate to a shelter for families in crisis.
- Become a Big Brother or Sister.
- Donate some clothes, appliances or cookware to the Salvation Army.
- When a cashier gives you change, make eye contact, smile and say thank you.
- At the store, let someone with fewer items ahead of you in line.
