Hi! My name is David, I'm 35yrs and I'm from Stockwell, South West London
I live not very far from where BT was filmed. I also went to school with
blokes who were just like Ste & Jamie. To answer your question "What is a
walloping great fry up", This is London slang for a fried breakfast or meal,
usually, eggs, bacon, fried bread, fried tomatoes, fried anything, but plenty
of it, very unhealthy and enough to send your cholesterol into orbit. A lot
of people think it's "The Dogs Bollocks", this is a South London slang
phrase meaning very good, great, or excellent. It's my favourite slang
phrase. I once went out with a Bloke who was quite like ste and he used to
say that phrase all the time. Oh! By the way I bumped into the Actor who
plays Ste a few weeks ago, near Old Compton Street, in London's Soho, West
End of London, He was Gorgeous! All I could do was stand still with my mouth
open. Maybe he was going down Old Compton Street, the Gay area. Hmmmmm

Actually, I don't think that's "an easy one." Although Jamie says that
Sandra goes off things fast, I don't think it's really enough motivation to
drop him pretty much flat. For the most part, Sandra and Tony seem to get
on quite well. I personally would have liked to see a little more fleshing
out of the characters to see that coming.
However, I guess it's a minor point.

I think this comment isn't really serious. It's just another part of
the back and forth exchange of witty (or sometimes not) insults that is
constantly going on between Sandra and Jamie. It looks like it's
probably also a reaction to the fact that he is actually going out.

As for Ste saying "I hate it.", I think he was just saying what he
thought Sandra wanted to hear.
As for the "You aven't got any mates." I don't think Sandra was meaning
to be rude, just honest. All the scenes between Sandra and Jamie seem to
emphasize honesty, sometimes very brutal (i.e. TOUGH LOVE). Perhaps its
from this tough love that Jamie gets the courage to make the first move
with Ste.
(see my signature quote)
One of the things that surprised me was when Sandra LIED about spying on
Jamie. Definitely not in character. Perhaps she was too ashamed to admit
it (she looks away from Jamie when he accuses her), or simply didn't
want Jamie to get the impression that he was being watched.
Warmest Regards,
Darek

I think the music and the volume is just perfect. As someone said, its
volume is representative of the scene. (ie first kiss, and the kissing
scene in the park). And I also think that the "Sixteen going on Seventeen"
scene alludes to a transition for both Ste and Jamie. A kinda of maturing of
sorts...

At last! Someone who's giving Sandra a little bit of credit. I liked the
character very much and I'm surprised at the sudden backlash against her.
Sure, she's a little coarse and maybe doesn't say the right things at the
right time ("Jamie, you don't have any mates" etc) But she loves her son
ferociously and in time I think she'll grow to love Ste the same way (if
she doesn't already). The Tony break-up is confusing, but life is confusing.
Maybe it was the wrong thing to do, but she did it. It doesn't make her
a bad person. Quite the opposite, it makes the character more like a real
person than anything else could. So let's hear it for Sandra.

You're right. I don't think Sandra meant anything bad when she
said,"Jamie, you don't have any mates". I think it was indicative of the
close relationship they have. She was just being honest- not trying to
hurt him.
Isn't wonderful that Jamie could totally be himself in front
of his mother- there is never anything like, "you can't talk to ME that
way!!" They are equals to each other. And Sandra says something very,
very important to Jamie- that she wouldn't ever put him out like an
empty bottle! And how many times did she say, "You're OK- you are.
You're OK"
He's lucky to have Sandra as a Mom.
(how would your mother respond if she said, "I gave you those brains
young man" and you responded as Jamie did saying something like, "Oh
yeah, it must of been that lebatomy you had!"
Let's hear it for Sandra!

Hi,
I have found only three- not that I am actually looking, but after
seeing it a few times I noticed that:
1. When Jamie fights with Sandra his body mic is evident on his back
through his shirt- but someone already pointed that out already.
2. When Ste is preparing tea (dinner) and Leah's music starts
blasting, Ste has already removed the food from the stove, yet after the
incident there is smoke coming from his flat indicating he has burned
his father's (troll) dinner- impossible since he already took it off the
stove.
3. When Leah climbs up on the ledge and Ste is there to help, he says,
"Help us Jamie" Jamie proceeds to walk around the other side of Leah so
that he could help bring her down- but in he very next frame Jamie is
standing to Ste's left- obviously not having completed the action he
started in the previous frame.
To repeat what Eric said, "This is all in fun, mind you!"
This movie is aces!

Hi BTians,
I haven't read my e-mail for a long time- so going through 1000 mails
is hard work.
I don't really understand why some people think Ste is straight- the
critria being that Ste does't like the Gloucester and likes sports.
Everybody is of course different (thank god) and I know a
lot of gay guys who love sport- basketball/football - also a
lot that hate gay bars. I don't particularly like gay bars- it
seems such a contrived way of meeting gay people- I just wished
it was easier to meet people in other places like in
the hectro sexual world.
Straight people can't believe that I'm gay because 'I don't look
or 'act' gay'- I'm very glad to destroy the stereotypes. I think it
is a shame that some gay people have stereotype views as well.
Conclusion: You can't conclude that Ste is straight.
Love

Hardly. Whenever you actually see them TALKING, Sandra can't seem to be
civil to Tony and it's obvious that other than the sex, the don't have

I don't think there is any real "backlash" against Sandra. There is no
doubt that she is a good person and loves Jamie very much. Same for Ste.
When she finds Ste sitting outside crying after being beaten, she is very
comforting to him, and brings him home with her.
If anyone might have cause to dislike Sandra, it would probably be Leah.
They don't seem to get along, but really they do in their own way. Sandra
invites her over for beer on the terrace (well, at least Leah is there),
and they are always trading quips. I think deep down, under it all they do
like each other. Certainly by the end they do. So really, everybody likes
Sandra! Me too. :-)

I don't think any of us is engaging in Sandra bashing. I think we all
have a lot of respect for Sandra being such a tough and fierce person,
and for being so honest. And for being so devoted to Jaime. He tells
her he's gay, and she says I'm not going to put you out in the morning
like an empty bottle. I think she gets definite snaps for that. I think
we are just trying to gain a deeper understanding for her actions.

Well, to love a movie is to realize it has faults. There are others I can
recall from previous critiques we've had on here. Like Tony wearing socks
in one part of a scene and not in another. Can't recall exactly where.
As for no. 2, no, Ste picks up plates and moves them, he doesn't remove the
bubble and squeak from the stovetop. I used to think he was moving the pan.
But listen to the sound (yes, I am a BT freak), it's a stack of plates
clattering.

Hi Sandra,
Yesterday I went to the release party in Frankfurt.
As we know before, Scott and Glen haven'd been there.
But instead we had Tameka Empson.
When she gaves autographs I remember the spanisch cover I got from you.
Fortunately I got it with me. :-)
So now I have a very special collector's item with dedication and
signature!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
And - at last (I waited so long for it) my own viedeo copy.
I am so happy with it.
<mega-grin-smile-laughing>
The party itselfe was o.k..
It was added before a normal party in an old industrial buildíng.
Gays as far you can see.
To much Hausemusic to less Mama Cass (or other 70'th and 80'th music).
But unfortunately thats the normal way of gay partying here. <sigh>
I got to dance thats important only.
The only thing I miss now is an video copy in english.
But I am sure I'll get it too. :-)
So for now take care
and I thank you so much!

I was one of the people who thought Ste could be Straight, but it was for
NONE of the reasons you just listed. I too know many Gay guys who love
sports, and any and all things that Straight people like (perhaps with the
exception of women as sexual partners!)
My reasons for thinking Ste was Straight was really just in the way that
Scott played the role. It certainly is not in the screenplay, and I know JH
meant him to be Gay. I just thought Ste *could* have been Straight and
still done the things that he did in the film. I do certainly know Straight
guys who have sex with men. That breaks a lot of stereotypes too.
Best,

Have you noticed that when Ste and Jamie are kissing in the forest Ste wears
