As the British-based Body Shop opens more and more locations in
American shopping malls, it may become easier to find. I don't know
where you are in KY, but I'll bet there's a mall in Lexington or
Louisville that now has a Body Shop. I bought it at the Body Shop in the
brand-new Wolfchase Galleria in Memphis.
BTW, it does work well. And, yes, you do "stink of mint" when you
use
it. <G>

I've never seen a B-T FAQ, but it sounds like a great idea. The
official BT web site is loaded with information -- but I see a lot of
people writing entries in the guestbook there asking the same
questions over and over again. Go for it!

Urdangarin, an Olympic handball player and a CUTIE!) in Barcelona
(remember,

I wish the U.S. would have a magazine with such class. Life and People
probably come close, but...

On another topic, I've begun "evangelizing" BT at work, passing a tape and
my BT study guide among co-workers. Kind of fun. Feedback has been good.

Also, welcome, Jean. I hope you subscribed properly. I do hope you tell

My two cents. I'll go back to lurking now.

In Berkeley, there are several independent video stores to rent from, so
none of them have gotten suspicious yet (and I watch their eyes very
closely). Once they start making faces at each other and reaching for the
phone when they see me coming ("it's the zealot again, call the owner"),
I'll have to send away and buy the movie. I dread that day because then
I'll be able to watch it as many times as I really want to and that could
be beautiful and frightening.

I'll reign myself in a little bit next time but it's just so nice to
finally communicate with people who know what I'm talking about and
understand this whole BT phenomenon. I can't seem to inspire any interest

you do about the film. I first saw it a year ago last october, and when
it became available on video, I bought a copy and have been enjoying it

many people. I've never known another film to make such an impact as
this one did. I hope you are able to get your own copy soon. Again,

Hi Jean!

Welcome to the list! I live in the people's republic of Oakland. Imagine
that! Another BT fan, Jay -- and I mean a fan who has been to London TWICE
to go to BT events at the Glouchester and Thamesmead -- USED to live in
SF. Unfortunately he just recently moved to Chicago. Anyway, if you'd like
to talk in person with another BT fan, perhaps we can get together some
time. You're certainly welcome to borrow MY copy of BT!!

BT was a turning point in my life; and what a life I've led since I first
saw it in November of 96! If nothing else, feel free to email me privately.

Best wishes,

Mike

PS: Hi to all the other BT listers. I haven't been posting much. Very busy
since the Solstice (incredible, unbelievable stuff). What's more my
mother, who just turned 91, is dying. It's sad but okay; she's lived a
long and fruitful life. Perhaps I'll be posting more to the list in the
not too distant future. Love to ya all...

You can't ever watch it to many times. However you can lend to out
to to many people and loose track of who has got. I've bought 5
copies (all in the orignal wide screen format) and last night I
relaised I can't find my last copy. (So sorry benjo, until I get a

You brought up a good issue regarding the email list advertised on
Davie's web site. I wonder how many people are subscribing, not realizing
the list is long gone? Does anyone on the list ever see/hear from Davie
that could ask him to either update it to the new list, or remove the
reference altogether? It's really not fair to people really trying to get

In the meantime this is just a quick letter from a rather frantic director
to let you know that rehearsals are going very well. The set is taking
shape thanks to the wonderful design skills of Charles Kevin who plays
"Tony".

If you can't be in Sydney for BT, then watch the 1998 Sydney Gay & Lesbian
Mardi Gras parade which is shown on Channel 10 in Australia. We are
entering a float in the parade entitled "Jamie & Ste go to Mardi Gras". It
should be very sweet!

Anyway, I'll post more info tomorrow as well as attached the fabulous
poster.

Just about the time we went to London in October, Marc, editor of the
Thamesmead Gazette, said that there was a possibility that the Gloucester
could be torn down a strip mall put in its place, a typically American
thing
to do. But if there's a refit in the plans now, at least we know the G
will
still be there.

Was the staff nice to you? Dare we dredge up how some of us have been

Although the information about the *film* at this site is still current,
the supporting information, like mailing lists, are out of date. That's
why
last week I suggested an FAQ be started. An FAQ, which would include
information on where to join the list(s), can be regularly posted to
places
like the newsgroup (alt.movies.beautiful-thing), and while we're at it,
the
two current mailing lists (Beautiful Thing Mailing List / BT-Stories
Mailing List). I made a start at it, but not knowing much about how to
construct an FAQ, I haven't gotten very far with it. Any suggestions or
questions are welcome.

BTW, to those who know Davie, could you please pass on my kindly regards,
he's been missed since his misfortune and thank him for keeping the sight
going.

Andy.

Yeah, I'll miss the parade by a few days (sob)...and when Channel 10 show

seeing that I work for the 10 affiliate station in Tasmania, I'll get some

Sandra,

Just remember, Beautiful Thing what ever you make it. It's only a script
typed on white paper, shot on flimsy plastive film. The new scenes,
glances, etc. are what you fill in with your imagination, dreams, etc.
Maybe you could even compose an add on story to complement BT some day ;)
(heehee)

Oh, well. Indulge me tonight, let me ramble!!

Rambling is perfectly OK!! I seem to do it everytime I get a new friend
to
watch it. :-)

So, how does it sound dubbed into Spanish? Wouldn't it be hard to get the
slang, as well as the tone of voice?

For the rest of the list:

Do any of you know if HBO is going to carry BT in the United States? I
thought I saw a reference to that recently.

I hope HBO does run BT. It'd be worth getting cable just for that.
A couple of days ago, I ran into The Body Shop in a local mall. It was
all I
could do to keep from running in a tear-filled panic (no melodrama
intended)
to find the Peppermint Foot Lotion. Had to buy a bottle just to keep on
my
shelf.
Looks like I was even more impressed by BT than I thought (which was
considerable).
Stay beautiful y'all,
Steve

I've run out of friends already! :)
Now they'll have to watch it more than once!! :))

Ya know, the first time I saw it dubbed in Spanish it sounded sooo
wrong...
but I got to see more than in the English version since the Spanish
version
is not Widescreen. I could see more of the characters, especially at the
bottom of the screen, their legs and such. As for the language, eventually

you get use to it.

The dubbing was slightly different, of course, since certain expressions
are
untranslatable ("Hugh Janus", for example); but there's also Spanish
slang
so they changed one expression for another. Anyway, I ALWAYS prefer the
English versions!!

Andy, now it's you the one who's doing the counting!!! Enjoy it!!
Oh, what a sweet torture, do you think? :)

Take care.

Sandra.

P.S. Have you seen Scott Neal's picture in the French site? My jaw fell
open and I'm still trying to close it up!! God, I've never seen anything
so
beautiful!!! Oh Scott, please, marry me!!!

Oh, PLEEEEASE tell me HBO is picking up BT in the United States!?!?! That
would make so many people over here happy and may actually help the
populations understand each other. In my city, our wondeful politicians
have
recently decided to NOT pass a 'fairness ordinance.' In this ordinance,
there
was an extension of equal housing and employment extended to gays. Meaning
that we could not be declined housing because of our spousal interests,
nor
could we be declined a job or even fired from one due to our sexuality.
this
was the original request...then it got watered down to include businesses
except church and kid based organizations like daycares. (Cause you know
we
are all pedophiles! Sarcasm in that) So, this movie would show, hopefully,
to
millions of people that this lifestyle is just like any other, except it
is
made harder by the closed-minded people.

I know that probably none of that makes since and I am sorry for preaching
to
the choir, I just am young and already afraid that I will not be able to
live
my life openly because I work with youth! Sorry.

Hope HBO Takes the initiative and proactive approach...otherwise we are
simply
going to have to bond together and MAKE them!

Later,
Donald

Hi All,

Michael  just send me a nice jpg of the poster for the premiere
Australian production of Beautiful Thing. Wait till you see it!

I have posted the jpg to my website so everyone may download it. At
present, there is no link to it from my pages (one coming soon) so you
need
to go directly to this address:

That file name contains the number one not the letter "L".

Enjoy!
