Which bespeaks a great deal of confidence in, and satisfaction with,
your interpretation of his work-- that is a high tribute to your
talents, Michael! Good-- more likely, "Great"-- show!

It is so nice to feel the elation in your voice as you wrote that!
We're all very happy for you!

Even if you should have to postpone your company's inevitable visit to
the US (command performance by the Queens! Well, Eric-- hi, Eric!--
and me in NYC, anyway!<G>) because of lengthy engagements to packed
houses in Oz, I hope your intent to video a performance of the play
still holds-- I'd gladly place an order for a copy right now!!

Much continued Successs to you, Michael!

This probably isn't news to those on the list lucky enough to be British,
but in my nightly surfing on the Web, I found a BBC site discussing the
show
"Goodness Gracious Me." A name sounded eerily familiar. Meera Syal.
Meeeeera Syal. Where have I heard that? Well, of course, it's Our Own
Ms.
Chauhan. The show is described as Britain's first all Asian sketch show.
According to her bio on the site, she received one of Britain's highest
honours, for her service to the arts, in December at Buckingham Palace.
Impressive.

Just an offering to broaden our BT horizons.

Which leads me to ask: What are Linda Henry and Tameka Empson doing
nowadays? We know that Ben Daniels has "Madeline" and some other films
coming out soon, even in the United States. Glen and Scott have "London
Bridge" and "The Bill." But what are Tameka and Linda doing? Anyone seen
them on anything?

I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of congratulations for the Aussie
production of BT. The tour is always welcome in the American heartland.
Skip New Yawk. It's dreadfully overrated. And I'm waiting for Tap Dogs
to
come through. May 2-3! I will be there, panting. Unfortunately not the
original Aussie cast. But it will still be great.

BTW, I must append Eric's statement about my offering of The Bill pic. I
merely found it on the alt.movies.beautiful-thing and passed it on to my
newsgroup-impaired friend from New Yawk. I don't remember who was kind
enough to actually post the pics. It is to this person who Mr. Perkins
owes
his deepest gratitude (but you can still worship me, Eric).

And speaking of Mr. Perkins, a lovely photo he took of me whilst in London
will play a prominent role in a story about my sojourn to Thamesmead with
other BT'ers in October. The employee newsletter for my company, a fairly
large Midwestern U.S. newspaper, is featuring stories on people who took
exotic trips recently. Guess mine qualifies. My little article features
a
nice panoramic shot I took of Thamesmead. And, yes, I do tell why I went
--
my love for "BT."

Dear Kent

Thanks for your very kind words, Kent.

Jonathan is immensely pleased with my interpretation and the incredible
energy and conviction of the characters. He may be spending a week with
the
cast before it goes BIG, otherwise I will be seeing him in London next
month where I'll also check out Thamesmead et al.

In fact I'm speaking with him this evening which should be a blast.

We would love to play NYC (I mean, who wouldn't), but at the moment we've
only got the Australian and New Zealand rights. There are many obstacles
for Australian actors working in the States, especially an entire ensemble
cast. The Tap Dogs did it, but they paid a huge amount of money for the
privilege.

In regard to the video, we are legally not allowed to use the video for
any
other use than for our company records. With the professional tour, I will
be setting up an official Australian Beautiful Thing website which will
include cast photos, biographies, photos from the play, etc.

Thanks again for your support.

Cheers

Dear Listers

Thankyou all for your support of my stage production of BEAUTIFUL THING.
It
has been an incredible journey for me which has finally seen me "get a
break".

Jonathan spent many years working on BT and since it opened (the stage
play
I'm referring to), many of his other dreams have come true. I feel this
play is already doing that for me.

Aside from getting the rights to tour the play nationally, I have also
fallen truly, madly, deeply in love with my own private beautiful thing.
It
has been the most intense and emotionally rewarding experience of my life
and not a minute goes by when I'm not thinking about him, his beautiful
smile (to die for) and his amazing mine (so unbelievably like mine). We
even have the same dreams - in both senses of the word. I have found love
and immense happiness. This is a very satisfied person typing this.

On Wednesday 4 March, it is my birthday and my new love and I are treating
ourselves to a suite in one of Sydney's most luxurious hotels. We decided
we deserved it. (I'll be 23 btw)

Also, we have already had the opportunity to mingle with a couple of
international stars when I was invited to a Film Festival, namely Samuel L
Jackson, Keanu Reeves and Kylie Minogue. Nice.

Beautiful Thing has changed my life for the better as it has done for so
many others.

Thankyou Jonathan - you're a star!

Cheers

Thank you so much Eric for the dreamy picture of Glen Berry (ahhh, that
name)! He always gets that wistful look on his face when he's thinking of
me...

Michael, I can't imagine how you even sleep at night with all of the
beautiful things that seem to be drawn to you. Big congratulations!! Must
be evidence of your beautiful soul. The kind of beautiful soul who dreams
of winging his way to Berkeley for his U.S. debut of Beautiful Thing! (New
York is Continental but Berkeley is a Phenomenon! The Athens of Urbana!
The
Stonehenge of the Millenium! (huh?) Free Coffee!) I would like it very
much; then I could stop feeling jealous of people who've never harbored an
unkind thought toward me! [referring, of course, to those with tickets to
the penultimate performance, Andy!! We'll be flanking you on all sides (!)
as you crest bt-nirvana!]

Wow, I feel compelled to contribute a few vague and inconclusive comments
regarding sexual identity. An attempt to define even one individual's
sexuality is like trying to reverse engineer their brain! I'm not saying
that it can't be done, but I don't think...alright, I'll try another
approach to explain it and I might as well use myself: my sexual identity
has so many puzzling and delightful dimensions that sometimes I just enjoy
getting lost in the "maze" of it. I've been known to wander around in
there
for weeks at a time!!!!! Of course it's not necessarily like that for
everyone but that's just my point which brings my babbling full circle
without really having gone anywhere. I guess I could say that I consider
sexual identity a continuum, not a conclusion. There are just too many
elements involved. (Sorry, didn't mean to get so personal!)

it, she said to me what I have been thinking for a long while. Wouldn't
Linda Henry be just wonderful Mrs. Johnston in the musical BLOOD
BROTHERS? Anyone who knows the musical, she just fits the desperate, but
compassionate woman forced to part with one of her twin boys. I don't
know if she can sing, but maybe if they make a movie they could dub her
voice. Either way, I think she would be great.

"London Bridge" is a drama series / soap that runs on the London franchise
of the ITV network - Carlton. It has been running for about 18months I
think, it goes out twice a week at 6.30pm.
It is based around a restaraunt, Glen plays a kitchen hand employed at the
restaurant.
That is really all I know as I don't actually watch the series because
when
it first started it was appalling.

I suspect our webmaster Chris and some other people can fill you in.
All is know is that "something" happened to David and he's not
able (?) to do anything about the site for now. I'm just glad it's
still on line and that the guestbook is running on automatic.

That is a great site -- an encyclopedia of BT information -- and I

I wonder if David  would allow someone just to do some

You're absolutely correct. I cannot speak for Davie, and don't know that
story that well. Certainly it was his site that unified the BT movement
in
the early going and still draws a lot of people when they look on the Web
for BT information. But it's dormant now.

That's why it's important for people such as Eric, at aok.com.bt, and
others
to pick up the slack of keeping up with BT happenings.

Unfortunately, nothing is happening with the merchandise. For now, David
is not actively working on anything BT related, although I hear that
in the back of his mind he still plans to do something. How long that will

Antony,

The merchandise proposals on Davie's web page were speculative, based on
his
continuing involvement with BT. He chose to step away, for various
personal
reasons, so none of those plans ever reached fruition. The Dutch fanclub
is
the most active BT-associated group. They are far and away the best

Sure, I can....

The dutch club is a member of this list, so you can always reach us here
(see?)
But more info is on
You can also e-mail to either the list (which is public) or  which is private.

BTW, the dutch fanclub is not specifically dutch, we have lots of overseas
members!
(Hi guys!)

And Hal? your signup worked fine, both times. I guess our automated
replies just didn't reach their destination. :-(

Greetinx,

Andre

I finally got my very own copy of BT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aint life grand!!!!
Of course there were a few new revelations! I had always wondered why
Leah's mom takes so long to turn off the music in the scene where Leah
has tripped out. I noticed that when Leah goes into her mom's closet,
she rolls over and has earplugs!!!! Question answered!!!!! Also, I
like how when Sandra lies to Jamie that someone from her bar saw him go
into the Gloucester, she kind of looks down and away from him as if he
would be able to tell she was lying if she looked directly at him....so
true to life! I just love these little touches that make the movie seem
all that more true to life!

As usual,
MGB

Congratulations, Michael, on getting your own copy of BT. We've been
missing each other on IRC lately!

It's funny that you should bring up the bit about Sandra. She says to Ste
late in the movie that she likes people to be straight up and honest, but
doesn't live by that rule 'erself. Cases in point:

1) When Ms. Chauhan calls to report Jamie's bunking off, Sandra lies for
him.
2) As MGB pointed out, Sandra lies about the Gloucester pursuit.
3) She's far less than straight up and honest with Tony when she sends
him
packing.

Sandra's had a tough life, and I supposed white lies got her where she is
today. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

By the way, in a few days, I will have reached my 1-year anniversary of
seeing BT the first time, in a theater here in Omaha, and again shortly
thereafter. The places this movie has taken me and the people I've met.
I
wouldn't trade it for anything.

Jeff

Hi,
I'm Neil and new to this mailing list.

The first (and last!) few emails I have received seem to suggest that
the
BT video is hard to obtain? Well all I can say is at either Virgin or
HMV
on Oxford Street, London they've got loads @ ?13.99. I don't mind
buying
and sending anybody a copy (presuming you use the PAL video system).
Let
me know.

I'm not sure what the etiquette is on this mailing list but I think
that
perhaps I should tell you a (tiny) bit about myself. I am now living
in
Brixton, London and have got there via Liverpool, Manchester and Rome.
I
work for the First National Bank of Chicago as a Windows NT administrator

(snore). I'm 28 years young and enjoying life enormously - particularly

when I'm off my face at the Fridge (a gay night club in London). I met
and
vaguely knew Jonathan Harvey way back in the late 80's when I was living
in
Liverpool. He came to a New Years party of mine and managed to get rid
of
some gate crashers by camping it up! ("Hello boys, please come in!)
Amazingly, I never saw the play or film in the theatre. The first time
I
saw it was when I bought it as a Christmas present for a friend. It
has
German subtitles for some reason! I have since bought my own German-free

copy and have nearly worn the tape out. Needless-to-say, several Mamas
and
the Papas CDs have been purchased. I have yet to make the Pilgrimage
to
Thamesmead (they advertise flats in Thamesmead on the London Undergound
from ?70 per week - maybe we should get one and open it as a shrine?!)
but
I made it as far as The Gloucester two Fridays ago. Now for something
really private: my best friend told me last night that he loves me and
always has. Weird, but true.

email me and we'll do lunch :)

Love to everyone

Hey Jeffo!!!!!!!!!
Hate that I havent seen you on irc lately 3D[ We need to find a time
when we can
both be on to catch up!!!!

It really is interesting that Sandra wants people to be strait up and
honest
(gay up and honest??) and yet she fibs so easily....but parents seem to
always
have double standards!! Hehehaha!!! But then again, dont we all! We want
people to be honest with us but we dont always hold ourselves to the same
standand. Wonder why that is???
Anywho! more thoughts anyone??

Always Gay Up and Honest!
MGB
