Update for Friday June 12.

Hello everyone,

This week at BT-Stories we've been celebrating Scott Neal's birthday (Wed.
June 10) and right on cue, Dave has delivered the goods! As promised, Act
II of One Way Ticket is there to read.

Jean continues to marvel me with these short vignettes from the screenplay.
This week we read The Gloucester
A while back, Sandra sent the list an excerpt from her All In The Family
story. I've called it First Kiss (but read the introduction first) with the
English translation from Jean. Thanks luv!

Graham continues on with The Club. What an exciting story this has turned
out to be. This week, read three new parts - 10 through to 12.

And "Illinois" is often mispronounced. The "s" is silent.

But, then, the _state_ of Arkansas is pronounced ar-ken-saw, but the
Arkansas _River_ is pronounced ar-kan-ses

And we thought we had trouble understanding Jamie and Ste. :)

BTW, I now have _five_ taped copies of BT from Sundance Channel airings.
Two more to go later this month!

Yeah, well, I was feelin' a little jealous of all the fans in London right
now, so I made a little update.

Kenny sent me two more pix. One more of Scott at Mr. Gay UK (pix...
Scott... last one in Gay UK
section).

He also sent me a still from a production of BT that the Royal Scottish
Academy of Music and Drama did this year. (Kenny goes to school there). PFL
scene. (pix... misc) bottom of page.

Also, I corrected my bad link to Mr. Gay UK.

Now, for the interesting news. I have just learned that Scott Neal heard
that a bunch of fans (us) were enjoying his Mr. UK pix and asked the
promoters about it. They gave him my website details. So... he may have
"stopped by." Wouldn't that be nice? Maybe he'll show up in the IRC chat
room!

Eric, is there a possibility of your links list including a link to my
paper on BT? Andre has the Dutch version on his site and a link to my
other versions. I've stored them on my web site, but they are not
linked from it.

Hi Gary,

Sure, I'll put up a link. I just went over and read your paper for the
first time (not previously having had the chance). Vey nice work.

I do however, have to point out two errors. Jamie is 15, not 16, and Ste is
16, not 17. This is important, because Jonathan Harvey wanted to illustrate
two very young boys falling in love. (The screenplay mentions Jamie's age
on page one, although Ste's age is not given. The play mentions both their
ages in the cast of characters.)

Secondly, none of the BT fan togethers have ever made it to "the" woods.
The one last year at this time intended to go, but were rained out. Jay
Peregrine made his own (lone) pilgrimage to Thamesmead, and first visited
Abbey Wood (I think it is his pictures on his website that you refer to).
However, Abbey Wood was not the actual filming location of the kissing
scene in the woods, even though the screenplay mentions that as the
location. That's over the hill in Oxley's Wood. The American Contingent
also visited Abbey Wood last October, but alas ran out of time and didn't
make it to Oxley's. So that's still Virgin Territory! :-)

Nit-picking, yes, but accuracy counts!

Yes, Donald, there is. It is hosted by Dal.net

You need some irc software to get in. A good one is mirc and you can
download it free. http://www.mirc.com. There is also info on irc in general
there. Read that, and all your questions will be answered.

The mirc software has built-in several coinnections to dal.net servers. Try
any of them. When at dal.net, connect to the chat room #beautiful-thing.
Questions about Dalnet? http://www.dal.net or http://www.dalnet.com.

It's all easier than it sounds at first!

Hi, Donald.

There are people on BT IRC at varying times throughout the day. Since you
are either are Eastern or Central time (Kentucky, hmmm, I don't have a map
available), there are often people on at noon from either the US or UK, at
midnight from the US (night owls) and sometimes Australia, if we're lucky.
The British and Dutch often come on around noon, when they are getting off
work. Or at 2 or 3 in the morning US time, when they are getting up.

Interest in BT IRC goes in spurts. Maybe now with the return from
Thamesmead, there will be more. You might find the Mighty Andre and Marc
and his lovely wife Sarah there at times. Who knows who else. There's a
dedicated band from the US, Ste, Robie, Chichi, me (Jeffo) and others who
pop on.

Give it a try.

Jeff

Hi my BTfriends!!!

I'm just back from London. You CAN'T possibly imagine the time we've had
over there!!! There were 27 of us and we missed SO MUCH all of you...

We had a totally rainy day. We met at the Gloucester and they had BT
posters on the walls. Then Andre told us there could be a surprise for us
later on but since they weren't sure it would come true, they preferred
not to tell us, just in case. Then we went to the Cutty Sark Pub (The
Anchor in BT) and we had lunch there (some of us). Next we toured
Thamesmead (rain and more rain!). Marc and Sarah were wonderful and they
told us a lot from the shooting of the film. Then we went back to the
Gloucester where we had the chance to see BT on a screen (a religious
experience for all of us). Afterwards, 'Katrina and the Boy' (Dave Lynn
was supposed to be there, but he finally couldn't make it) sang BT songs
(and more) for us. Since the pub closed at 23:00 and it was 22:45 I
supposed it was time to leave, but Andre told me we should wait because
LINDA HENRY WAS ABOUT TO COME IN!!!!!!!!! Indeed, she HAD ALREADY COME IN
and she was right behind me!!!!!

She was just INCREDIBLE!!! She came with her husband from the theatre
where she was performing. She barely made it, but she learned about the
meeting and she wanted to meet us. She had bleached her hair. She
looked much younger than in BT (my opinion, anyway) and thinner too. She
wore jeans and her look was great!!! We started asking her questions and
she was AMAZED (to say the least) about the kind of passion BT has
aroused. Then she started signing autographs and when my turn came it was
very weird. I told her my name was Sandra and we had a small laugh about
the uncanny coincidence. Then suddenly I was talking with her and she was
listening very carefully. All of us agreed that she was there because she
CARED!!!! She was amazed at our devotion to BT. I think I talked with
her for about a minute, maybe more, and she was SO VERY KIND (my mouth was
dry and I couldn't stop thinking: "I'm speaking with LINDA HENRY!!!" But
I don't know what mysterious force kept me talking. Then I suddenly
realized I was monopolizing her and I stopped myself!!! She listened to
everybody and she made us a lot of questions (she even made a few
reverences at our devotion which had made us fly from all over the world
just to be there).

It's 2:07 AM and I'm dead beat now. I'll be back tomorrow and I'll give
you all of the details. Right now my bed is enticing me with her soft
call. But before going I'll tell you I took a picture with her. She was
so kind and nice. She made an effort to be there and she was just
incredible!!!! (I won't believe it actually happened until I develop the
spool!!!)

I just had to share this with you before I go to sleep. See ya tomorrow,
my friends. I wish you could have been there!!!!!!!

Take care.

Sandra. (The other one!)

Wouldn't help that much unless you had Donald's address, since Kentucky
(as well as Tennessee) are divided between Eastern and Central time
zones. In Kentucky the time line was even "bent" so that Louisville
could remain in Eastern although it is due north of Nashville, Tennessee
which is _clearly_ in the Central zone. :)

Chicago... new color pictures are due up on the Famous Door website later
this week (the ones taken while we were there). Also they have a new

Their run has been extended (so far) to August 9th (previously reported as

Thanks for the email, and sorry for not making it to the gathering this

For those of you curios to know where I live, as Gav' certainly was,

I would loved to have made the get together, but work came first, and
there was no way to change my work schedule.

However, I am planning to have the weekend, starting 4/7/98 - 4th July,
off, so I may see some of you in London, during that time.

Until then, enjoy life while you can, and look after yourselves.

Bye for now.

Actually, #Beautiful<HYPHEN>Thing, or you'll create your own channel. And
you will likely be very lonely, unless others join that channel, and then
that won't be any fun for the people at #Beautiful-Thing.

Oright everyone,
=20
I'm just back from London, too! (and I'm knackered!)
=20
But, what an exhilarating experience it's been and I wouldn't 'ave =
missed it for the world! (you were right, Eric!) It was great meeting =
everybody and visiting all those places we know so well from the film. =
Oxleas Wood still managed to evade us -due to the lovely London weather- =
although at the very time we were meant to be there we were all still in =
the Gloucester with the charming LINDA HENRY.
=20
She was very gracious and sincere, and had time for all of us -both =
individually and as a group- to chat and sign autographs. (By the way, =
Sandra. You were talking to Linda for MUCH MUCH longer than a minute. =
Trust me! -Time flies when you're having fun, eh?) She had just finished =
shooting a Linda Le Plant production that day and was apparently very =
tired, but on hearing that Tameka was unable to attend our meet, she =
graciously stepped in.
=20
Personally, I think the admiration became a two way thing. Linda seemed =
to be bowled-over by the group's existence, and our personal stories of =
how and why BT has changed our lives. And she made it clear that she is =
very very proud to have been a part of it.
=20
Meeting Linda was the high point of a great day -despite the rain. It =
poured while we were wandering around Thamesmead earlier on, but we =
viewed all the locations undaunted, and dived into the Lakeside Social =
Club (The Swan) to completely take it over (for longer than we should). =
Marc and Sarah gave away lots of little secrets about the shooting of =
the film, and said that this would probably be the last time we would =
recognise the Tavy Bridge area as it appears in BT because of the major =
refurbishment due to start there soon. Some brave lads had their photos =
taken sitting on that bench in the rain, before we all headed back on =
the 180 to the Gloucester.

There was a nice buffet laid on for us and we all signed a BT poster =
that Terry (the manager) said he would have framed and put on permanent =
display. Then we watched BT on the big screen, and were entertained by =
'Katrina and the Boy' who got us to join in with all our favourite =
songs... "Stars shining bright above me..." (including some audience =
slowdancing!) And, just when we thought the evening was over, in walked =
Linda to surprise us all!
=20
Sunday's weather was much nicer and we all gathered for a wander around =
Piccadilly Circus. Unfortunately, (for me) I had to begin my journey =
home that evening, and at the time I left there were rumblings that =
another cast member may be coming to meet the gang (so I wait with =
everyone else to see if that happened!)
=20
It was an incredible weekend that I wish everyone on the list could have =
shared in together. Maybe next time, mates!

Just off to have a cup o'tea and catch some zzz's now.

Subject: [Fwd: btlist: More] Chicago Finale

Eric, Jeffo, Jay and BT-listserv friends--

For our BT Chicago finale get-together, do you think we should do the
Saturday nite (August 8th) or the actual "final" day Sunday (August
9th)?? For those of us that work on Monday, Saturday may be a bit
advantageous!?

Also, Jay, could you please respond to the list with the names and phone
numbers of the two hotels that are near your apartment and are in
walking distance to the Theatre? As we all learned the hard way,
Chicago hotels book early and fill rapidly...after all, your living room
floor is only so big! :-)

Chicago... new color pictures are due up on the Famous Door website later
this week (the ones taken while we were there). Also they have a new
(glowing) review up.

Their run has been extended (so far) to August 9th (previously reported as
the 8th). This info has not yet been added to their site.

Hey there Gavin, and all !

Thanks for the email, and sorry for not making it to the gathering this
weekend just past.

For those of you curios to know where I live, as Gav' certainly was,
(bless him), I'm from Brentwood, in Essex, in England !

Meeting a cast member? Gotta be a few extra points. :-) I suppose we'd
have to add degrees of meetings. Meeting one of the boys would be the top
prize. We were discussing in Chicago that there are certain things BT fans
MUST do. Among them, see the film on the big screen, which is no small feat
anymore, since many on the list have only seen it on video. See the play
somewhere in the world. Visit Thamesmead. And now we can add meet a cast
member (preferably without stalking him or her, which would mean MAJOR
demerits, and maybe jail time!). I'd say the 27 people who fulfilled the
visit AND the cast member encounter are pretty lucky. Now just fly to
Chicago or drive to Edinburgh to see the play AND see the big-screen version
somehow. You've got the Big Four.

Hi Sandra

Thanks for telling us all, how great the BT get together went. I feel
really down, to the fact I and many others, couldn't make it there.

I hope you recover from your journey home, and look after yourself.

That goes for all you other's out there, also !

Hello Gary, and all !

In response to your question as to whether or not, there is a BT irc
line, the answer is yes,

You need to connect to irc.dal.net , port value should be set to 7000

and need to join the #BeautifulThing channel,

Hi Jill, and thanks for welcoming us newbies to this btlist, It is an
honour to be greeted like this, that we feel like gods !

Well , some of us,

I have read most of the plays, and keep seeing new talent added to the
btstories web site, and it just show's that there is talent out there !

Seriously, I am proud of you guys, of what you are doing, and I can't
wait until society, one and forall, welcome us, as human beings, and not
sweep us under the carpet, as they always do.

Admittingly, I read the Gay Times, and Attitude mags, and to see the
support that we are getting from government officials, and those who are
famous, I feel like crying, with happiness, to know they are standing by
us, and hopefully will rid the section 28 document, and make us free !

Keep your heads raised, and look up in honour.

Stu.
