I'd say, book Saturday, with a Sunday addition for those (like me!) who can
manage two performances.

I'll come up with a complete list, with phone numbers, for those who are
interested.
Send me an email to request the list (don't want to clutter up this list):
I can tell you right off that there are a Comfort Inn and a Days Inn on
Diversey within one block of me. You might start with those chains. Also,
there is a B&B referral service - I'll get the number for that as well.
Bye the way, some members (like Eric & Jeff) will probably come back before
the finale,
either because August is out, or they just can't wait! So, if anyone is
thinking of coming to Chicago in July, let me know! :-)
I want to reiterate: this cast has really gotten good what they do - the play
is already up for at least one award here. I'm now totally enchanted with
Matt & Michael's rendition of the "peppermint foot lotion" scene and Matt
&
Kirsten's version of the "you went to the gloucester" scene. (Jamie's bed is
only a couple of feet from the front row, for one thing. Very intimate). If
there is any chance of getting to Chicago in the next couple of months, you
wanna get yourself here to see it!

Hi Stu,
Yeah I'll definitely be there. I live in Brixton, London so Clapham Common
is only a mile or so down the road (for the stagger home.) Make sure you go
to the march (or parade as its being called this year) as think it is the
most important bit. Also there is Summer Rites in Brockwell Park, Brixton
on 1st August which is a smaller version of Pride.
The info I have on these events is as follows:
The parade starts at Hyde Park at 11am Saturday 4th July and works its way
through the centre of London (Piccadilly, Westminster, Victoria) The its a
mad rush to get to Clapham which is often half the fun of the day. The
festival which takes place there was free and unrestricted up until this
year. As last year was mad, the local borough council have imposed a limit
of 100,000 visiting the common. Therefore it is a ticket only event (as is
Summer Rites) available at all good gay venues and by phone. Cost £5. Be
quick as I think they have nearly all gone. There will be many big names
playing on stage plus many tents including a BBC Radio 1 tent with their top
DJs broadcasting live to the UK. There is also a fun fair. That's all I
know I'm afraid.
Maybe those of us going could arrange to meet at some point. The earlier
the better for me as a cocktail of drinks and "sweets" will make life fuzzy
towards the end of the day.
Also maybe next year we could have a BT float on the parade?
lots of luv,
Neil

Hi again,
I'll be going to Pride with several friends but would still be definitely
like to meet up. Perhaps we (including any local BTers) could meet up

has any preferable dates please post them.

Hi y'all,
The London trip sounds as if it was brilliant, well I
didn't really expect it to be otherwise. I thought of you
all at the weekend while I was working, sheltered from the
raging thunderstorm overhead. Well I say sheltered but the
roof was leaking and there were more buckets than
customers. I work at M&S (Marks & Spencer for the non
Brits among us)in Hedge End near Southampton and normally
the weather here and in London is more or less the same so
I have an idea of what it was like.
Meeting Linda Henry well... what an experience especially
seeing as she sounds so down to earth. Well its no use
moping over a missed opportunity I'll just have to sit here
and read the lucky ones' accounts all day and imagine I was
there. I might have the chance to make my own little
pilgrimage to Thamesmead v soon as my mum's sisters live in
Greenwich, it wont be quite the same but at least I will
have been before the redevelopment.
PRIDE
I have the weekend in question off work because I am
supposed to be going on hols next week. However, it is
looking more and more unlikely. I don't want to buy a
ticket yet in case I can't go, but if I find out for
definite that I am free then I would be interested in
meeting up and attending. I will get back to you all with
further news as I sort myself out.
Stu, mate, just a quick question, if you don't have much
access to your email, how come you have over 10 messages
sitting in my inbox?
hasta luego,
Sean

Well, I thought I might as well add my contribution to everyone else's!
Despite the weather, I had a wonderful time. I didn't really know what to
expect when I poked my head around the door of the Gloucester at 12.15 that
Saturday, but when I heard Mama Cass music and saw all the posters on the
wall, I knew I'd found my spiritual home! And so many people! I really
couldn't believe that so many people came from so far away to be there -
marvellous.
Being an eternal optomist, I hadn't bothered with a coat or a brollie, so I
did get slightly wet as we meandered our way to the Cutty Sark (the Anchor)
and then on to the bus stop to get the wrongly coloured 180 bus to Thamesmead,
but did I care? No!
Thamesmead was a revelation to me. Every time we turned a corner, there was
something familiar, and I found it strangely moving. By this time, Rich had
given me his umbrella, so I was a bit drier, but not much. Quite what the
locals made of us all tramping around in the rain, taking pictures of
stairways and rubbish chutes, I don't know! There was a woman standing in
Sandra's doorway, but the door wasn't quite wide enough to see in!
Back at the Gloucester, they had really gone to town for us, laying on a
buffet, letting us watch the film (as Sandra said, almost a religious
experience!) and then the cabaret, which was highly entertaining.
I was totally knackered by then, having had no sleep on Thursday night, so I
decided to take myself off home, totally missing the highlight of the evening
when Ms Henry turned up! Well, I suppose it serves me right, but I'm trying
not to think about it!
When I woke up the next morning, I really thought I had dreamt it all - the
memories had that 'out of this world' feel to them. Perhaps it was going to
Thamesmead, perhaps it was actaully being able to voice how I feel about the
film and people actually understanding me, I don't know. I wouldn't have
missed it for the world.
Anyway, going to Thamesmead has certainly sown a seed of a story in my head,
so I'm going to try to start to write something at last! Also, as I'm really
only about an hour away, I'm going to go back one fine sunny day to Thamesmead
and take some decent pictures! I'm also going to make it my personal mission
to find the house where they had the party!
Thank you to everyone who shared the 2 days with me - it was a pleasure and an
honour to meet you all, and hopefully it wasn't the last time.
Bye for now,
David

I shall be on the march, but as a matter of prinicpal I will not be
attending the "Festival".

Well, I'n not entirely sure what I'm doing afterwards, it probably
involves a picnis at hyde park after the march then hours in a real ale

Gavin, Gavin, Gavin. I've read each account of the Beautiful Weekend
hungrily and have happily partaken of each participant's enthusiasm and I
can even gaily admit to going grrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeen more than once (at
least I have the consolation of it being my best color ever) but yours is
something very special.
I was very touched by it. Truly. I could literally feel the generous
affections you described and it made me so happy for you and not even a hint
of green in that, although I would love to have basked in such moments with
all of you. (next time?)
Thank you for your description of being amongst the "nicest, warmest,
kind-hearted people I could ever hope to meet".
That's precisely the way I would describe all of you, too.
Thanks Gavin.

Hi all,
For those of you who weren't at the meet this weekend only read this
message if you don't mind being jealous yet again. I'm lost for words
really, I can't adequately convey my feelings and my thanks too
everyone. However I feel must try so I'll give it my best shot. As
you may or may not know it was my first time with a group of gay people
and to start with I was a little overwhelmed by you all. However once
I had spent I little time talking and just being around you all I found
out you were the nicest, warmest, kind hearted people I could ever hope
too meet. The easy way you showed affection so readily for each other
and for me was such a great demonstration of what I've been missing in
my life and I took note. The trip to Thamesmeade was great for me, but
it was soon over shadowed by the people I met, I found Linda so very
humble and friendly which was so nice too see. However I was just as
pleased to meet all the other people who had decided to show their love
for this movie by travelling to the origins it all. I wont try and
remember all the names because I can't I was too busy looking at all
the happy faces to remember names. There were a handful of special
people I would like to thank personally, so don't be upset if your not
one of them I consider you all friends now.
Kent and Joe, one word for you "ditto".
Andre and Martijn, thank you so much for organising this event, I feel
like it was organised just for me too come out to the world. You
helped me to feel special for once, I think everyone noticed that my
confidence grew steadily throughout the weekend and I'm on a massive
high right now. And thank you so much for just being you.
Ian, thanks for listening.
Wolfgang, I hope I'll get too flip a slice of pizza for you again one
day.
Sandra, I'm amazed you managed too survive the weekend without your
oxygen tanks and portable shower. Great meeting you, hope you can make
it back to my country soon.
Thanks Marc and Sarah for being so observant when it really counted, we
owe you a lot.
I will be writing a more detailed account soon but for now I have just
one thing to say...
I AM GAY
Laters then,
Take care,

My pleasure, Eric, but there's a small problem. I still haven't developed
my spools! I took about 60 pics, so I have no idea which of them would be
appropriate. I hope to develop them this Saturday morning and then I'd
have to send them to you via ordinary mail, 'cause you know I don't have a
scanner.
One more thing, though. I'm not sure I heard this right (my fellow
Gloucester mates can tell about it more clearly) but Linda asked us not to
put up pics of her because she could get into trouble with her agent.
Anyone who heard this in more detail, please acknowledge!
Ian's right, she was completely bowled-over by the BT phenomenon. Andre
and Martijn told her about the BT webring and all of the BT websites
around and she was astonished. I told her about our increasing obsession
(she laughed when I used the word "obsession", but that's what it is,
right?) that had made us start writing our own BT stories. She asked us
what these stories were about and we told her that they were prequels,
sequels, in-between stories, poems and everything she could possibly
imagine. I told her of Andy's site where she could find all our stories
and she was gaping at this point, I swear!!!
My dear friends, what a day!!!! Well, night anyway.
Take care.
Sandra.

Hi there Beautiful Thing List!
Wow! You guys had quite the time in London, it would seem! I sincerely hope
that official permission can be obtained from Linda Henry's agent, so that
those of us less-fortunate list members can see Mrs. Henry in "person"! (I
absolutely adore her portrayal of the character Sandra. In many ways she is
one of the best developed people in the film)
Also, I have seen several people mention something in October. Can anyone
fill me in on details? That might just be possible for me to attend, if it's
in Europe anyway!
Thaks so much, and keep up the tales of BT bliss! It's great to share in a
bit of your collective charge!

Gavin,
What a really sweet message, and quite how I felt after meeting the other
BT gang in Chicago. You'll probably find gay guys to be the same mix of
people as the general population, some are bitchy, some are not. But I
have to say that those who have taken BT into their hearts the way they we
all have, seem to be a bit more romantic, clever, gorgeous, and have
impeccable manners!!?! Seriously though, I am as glad that I met 'the
club' as you are. I hope one day to travel to England to one of the
reunions to meet more of the others. Take care and hope to see you sometime.

Hi Eric
Woah that's hmmm pretty interesting stuff mate.
Just out of curiosity, was it anyone we know from here ?
Anyway, don't worry about finding a celeb, because, those of us on this

For those of you who don't, those of you who went to the BT gathering,
would have met Linda, and you lot are the ones who signed the poster, so

Gavin, our Hero ! #I need a Hero ......#
sorry couldn't resist that one mate.
Glad to hear you had a great time over the weekend, even though I didn't
make it.
I guess it was bad timing, not finding out about the event, until last
minute, I even put a letter in Gay Times, about sugesting a gettogether,
but after joining this site, I found it was already being organised.
So look's like I was one of many who were late as could be.
I'm jumping head over heels, and completely off my face, knowing that
you're gay, and wish you every sucess in the future, my only worry is that
you may feel down if you've got no one to turn to partner wise (such as
myself), but hey look up and keep smiling and the world will smile with
you !
with love and best wishes for 98' and beyond.
