Hello All,

First, IM only doing the first 8 tracks (the one in the movie) They
are all zipped and about 1 meg each. I will be posting them to the
newsgroup, and you may download them at your leisure. The remaining 4 (the
instrumentals) will be made tomorrow. I am not doing the tracks that were
not in the movie. I hope this helps!

***Merchandise***
For those who aren't aware, I have been negotiating with Film Four to
obtain the global Merchandising rights. The illustrations on the
Merchandise pages of the web site were created recently to give you an
idea of what will be available.

What will be available?
T-shirts, original UK movie poster, Baseball cap, Boxer shorts,
Car-window sticker, A4 prints, Postcards, Mug, Pen.

The first sample T-shirt was made on Friday, in time for the 1st
anniversary meet in London. Response was good and the design will be
used.

When?
Once Film Four and I reach agreement I will put in place a credit
card, telephone, fax, mail - order system.

***Sampled sounds***
Copyright exists in the sound-track, meaning you do not have the right
to copy without obtaining permission.

As part of the arrangement with Film Four I have that permission, and
along with Jason Ruddy in California, have been working on a set of
sampled sounds from the movie sound-track.

You can hear some of these already on the Sound Clips page of the web
site. They are encoded in RealAudio format for copyright protection
and to fit bandwidth limitations.

We hope a MS Windows 95 sound scheme will be made available at the
time the Merchandise is released. Other formats will be supported.

Hi-hi everyone,

I'm ecstatic that I made on to this email list (the first time I tried,
somehow it didn't work and I was devastated)!! I'm so in love with this
film and it is, without a doubt, the best film that I have ever had the
privelege to view. I've seen it about 8 times in five days and I'm now
in the feeling-ten-different-emotions-at-once state when I watch the
film or think of it (which is very often). I want to thank David Moody
for this fabulous site (I knew there had to be others like me out
there!); it has provided me with a wealth of info about the film.
There is not much life here in Lafayette, Louisiana USA, to say the
least. The film made me long for the youth and innocence in the eyes of
the young couple, and I can only wish for the kind of relationship Jamie
had with his mother. I'm really lonely now, mostly because my best (and
the only one I can relate to) friend is in Europe studying for a
semester abroad. She's already gotten to see David Bowie (one of my
idols) in Paris recently, and she'll be in London on July 6th where
she'll probably meet Johnathan, Tameka, Glen, and Scott!!! I'm living
vicariously through her stories of these events, but it's not enough.
I WANT TO BE THERE!!!! Oh, well, I can always dream....
I'm looking forward to chatting with anyone and everyone about the film
or whatever. My friend Nancy's name is on my email address (she's the
one over where you guys are), but it's ME ME ME who you'll be talking
to!

The news-group was officially created at 01:32:16 on 9th June 1997.

Please read the rest of this article carefully, and switch to using
the news-group instead of the email list for discussions as soon as
possible.

I will post my articles to both for those of you that cannot receive
the news-group. To the people receiving both, I apologise for the
duplicates you will see if you subscribe to both. The list should be
used when the matter is personal or private, and you don't wish it be
publically available..

Charter:
Discussion and news surrounding the movie Beautiful Thing, the
original stage play, video, music, producers, writer, director,
actors. it's effect on thousands of fans around the world. Meeting
place where fans can exchange views.

You will see some posts to the news-group which are made by people not
actually subscribed to it - so don't post articles about off-topic
posts to the group, write an email to the person instead, asking them
to observe the group charter.

In the same way you will see what is called SPAM - postings unrelated
to the group that are sent to hundreds or thousands of groups at the
same time. Don't get worked up over them, just delete them.

Do not post binary file attachments to the group. It's not in the
group charter, and it might cause some news-admins to refuse to carry
it.

This brings me to the Copyright issue. You should not post any
intellectual property unless you have specfic clearance from the owner
to use it. That includes recordings of audio and video, lyrics from
songs, the words from the plays, images used in packaging and
marketing the movie, and associated items.

It is acceptable to quote selectively, providing you make it clear who
the author is, and where you sourced the material.

For example:

Jamie said to Ste Sandra in scene 86 of the movie, "Well, it doesn't
mean I'm gay. They wanna mind their own business"

Beautiful Things,

I simply MUST get to London on July 6th and meet my best friend
who is already there now and go to the screening for London Pride 97,
but there is one teensy little problem. We're oceans apart. I live in
Louisiana, a dank, dark, murky little coastal state here in the United
States and I hate it, HATE IT, HATE IT!!!!! I want to go to this event
so very badly (the film means so much to me; it has changed my life; I
must express thanks) and I want to leave here forever. However, I'm
only a 20 year-old college dropout (well, let's just say I'm on
holiday!) who works in a corporate music store and can scarcely afford
to eat much less fly across the seas to be with you all. Rather than
risk emotional suicide by trying to explain things to my parents (my
only possible source for any extra money whatsoever), I though I would
ask all of you wonderful people for any suggestions you may have. I
need a dirt cheap flight. Once I get to London, my best friend Nancy
will already be there, so I can live off her Daddy's credit card, just
as she has been doing for her month vacation so far (she has a nice
daddy, unlike me). I feel so strongly connected with this film and
I've just got to be there to tell Johnathan "Thanks!" and "You're
fierce!". I'm sure if Nancy was here with me she's say I was obsessing,
but I just can't stay here any longer, especially with all this great
fun to be had in London!!! "Beautiful Thing" has helped me in so many
ways already; maybe it will help me to conjure up the courage and
scrounge up some kind of arrangement to leave this buck (that means bad)
place and start living!!! Oh, I'm just daydreaming, don't mind me!
Thanks for listening. I love you all. Anyone who has been touched by
this film, please, I want to speak with you!

See ya

Anyway, for whatever reason, I felt the desire to write

to graduate from James Madison University in Virginia and
then move home to Richmond, VA for a year before graduate
school. "Beautiful Thing" is one of my favorite films.... I
think Ste is particularly adorable.

Sorry that I do not have any ideas as to how to finance
your trip. If I hadn't maxed out my credit card (and nearly
maxed out my mothers, as well - and she doesn't know this
yet) then I might be tempted to fly there myself. Then
again, if I get real lucky and get lots of money for
graduation, a trip to England is high on my priority list.

If you are at all interested in a pen pal (well, e-mail

I must say that I too have been overcome with the very powerful urge to
cross the Atlantic and experience London. Beautiful Thing affected me in
many ways. I feel a bit more at peace with who I am and where I'm going
thanks to this quiet, funny, honest, and romantic film. But on another
level, I have rediscovered something that I lost a long time ago- since
I was a young child, I have felt an inexplicable affinity for all things
British.

When I was a kid, I was certain that I was a Brit trapped in the body of an
American. I think that Beautiful Thing reawakened that part of me, and since
I watched it, I haven't been able to stop thinking about going there. (Note
to anyone who attended the BT first anniversary tour of the locations,
please let the rest of us know what it was like to visit the Glouchester.)
I'm a 21-year-old college student who has never been outside of America,
and I'm not entirely sure how I'll handle traveling through Britain on my
own, but I'm going to make it there. (When I will go, how I will pay for
it, and where I will stay are still unanswered questions.)
If anybody on the list knows of a very inexpensive way to travel from the
US to the UK, please let me and all the other misplaced Brits know about it.

Thanks,

I'm seeing the same thing. There's only one subject, and it's only
mentioned BT once, in sort of an off-hand way, as if the writer didn't
even know he was posting to a BT newsgroup. Is there any possibility

Yes, that was also the first time I heard of the word. The Spanish
translation was somethig like "I'm all right. I feel great. Everything...
everything's great."
Well, the Spanish words were a little stronger and I guess 'pucker' is
stronger than 'great'. If any of you speaks Spanish, the EXACT words were:
"Estoy bien, de puta madre. Todo... todo está de puta madre."

Which reminds me of a doubt I still have, when Ste bangs on Rose's door to
tell Leah to turn the music down, Jamie's words are: "At a boy, Ste". The
Spanish dubbing says: "Well done, Ste". Is that correct? What's the exact
meaning?

Take care.

Thank you very much. It's one of the nicest things I've ever heard from anyone.
But all of us are unique. When I feel down or I consider my life is
worthless I try to remember that I'm unique. Consider: there are thousands
of millions of people on this planet, billions of stars in this galaxy and
millions of galaxies in the universe, but in this universe each of us is
unique and irreplaceable. We may feel insignificant, unloved and alone, but
we must remember that we are unique and there will never be another person
like us. It's somehow comforting, to know that even if I'm a nuisance, I'm a
UNIQUE nuisance.

Metaphysical, innit? But also true.

Take care.

Sandra.

Boy, there seem to be a lot of us out here.
Jot me down as another American who feels like a misplaced Brit. I
have always had a great affinity and fondness for all things British.
Music, movies, cars (how could you not like the Mini?), the lang (the
British, IMHO, have a much better grasp on the language than us
Americans). I've been a bit more fortunate than most, however, in that I
have relatives over there and have been able to visit. It is a truly
marvelous place. I encourage everyone who has a chance to go visit. I'm
currently trying to find a way over there myself (the BBC has no
internships, just unpaid work experience), so if anyone knows of any
exchange programs for college students that are reasonable or
anything....drop me a line.

And to Brandon -- woo hoo! A fellow Richmonder! I just moved from there
(currently attending Arizona State U in Phoenix). A wonderful place to
live. One of the friendliest places I've ever been. Next best thing to
England, if you're on a budget (well, Richmond and New England....).

they travel for free? Oh, by the by, which college are you at? Maybe you
don't have to fly as far as I do! This daydream is driving me crazy. I want toget

Hey Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrickie!

I found this for you:

"PUKKA" is a word of Anglo-Indian (Hindi) origin. Defined by the Concise Oxford
Dict as "genuine;of good quality; reliable;of full weight".

You've probably already gotten several replies, but just thought I'd chime in
regardless in case you hadn't found out yet. Isn't it a cute word (well,
maybe it's Scott Neal's pronunciation that does it!)?

David...

Check your local paper for any companies that advertise courier rates. They
are much lower than regular commercial rates and may be in a price range you
can afford. Also, check around and try to find an office of STA Travel, an
international service devoted to helping students travel. They also have some
great deals on flights.
