I live in Boston, so I feel I could give you some good info. about gay life in Massachusetts. The nice thing about Boston is that everything is located close to each other. A good starting point is Harvard Square, Cambridge; at Out of Town newstand you can buy a lot of good gay and local papers. Then head over to Grendel's Den (not gay) for the salad bar and other tasty fare to peruse your reading materials. It's in a former Harvard frat house and has great atmosphere and reasonable prices. I'm no longer familiar with the bars, but you'll find plenty of them in Boston, Cambridge and P-Town. Somerville also has quite a few gay establishments, so check out the local papers if this is up your alley. Also, go to Glad Day Books across from the Boston Public Library for extensive gay literature, newspapers, information, etc. A real meat-rack for men, however. Too much testosterone for me - 15 min. is my time limit there. There is a great ferry to P-Town that departs from the World Trade Center in Boston every morning at 9am. It arrives at about 1pm in P-Town and returns about 6pm to Boston. The cost is about $30 roundtrip. I will call tomorrow to make sure it runs after Labor Day. I'll also check on buses for you.

Provincetown

I have a link to a good Provincetown URL on my home page:

Also I stayed at The Cape Codder Guests (570 Commercial St., P'town, MA 02657; 508-487-0131) for two weeks last summer. It is an old fashioned B&B, the rooms are not fancy but clean and comfortable. For about $50./night you also get a decent continental breakfast, on-site parking, and a private deck across the street overlooking the harbor. It is on the far East End, past all the art galleries. I would highly recommend it for those on a budget or if you'd rather spend your $$ dining out and shopping. The owner is not Gay (not that I know of anyway, he is a native and a widower). But there was a nice mixture of gay, lesbian, and straight guests. And the house is surrounded by gorgeous dahlias, a passion of the owner. Also, they do allow pets in their first floor rooms with advance notice. I'm hoping to return there this summer.
