I did not spend long enough in Asheville to be able to tell you reams of specific places but I will cite a few that I know. If you like Cafe's, art galleries, bookstores etc like me, try checking out Malaprops, a lesbian owned and operated bookstore/coffee house. They have an excellent supply of gay lesbian and T.G. books and bumper stickers. Rainbow ends is another neat place, lots of cool odds and ends. I really enjoyed Bean Streets Cafe which offers a rich variety of snacks and beverages in the cozy atmosphere of a wonderfully decorated little shop. They also have great life entertainment and poetry readings. Malaprops also has a kind of dyke poetry evening every month. There are a number of cool eating places, loads of Mexican, Carribean and vegetarian food. I liked Rio Burito for excellent eats at very good prices. Max and Rosies is also a good place. As for the art galleries there are a ton of interesting ones. I really liked, New Morning Gallery and the Blue Spiral. The night life is good too. I recommend Hair Spray. A gay bar/club with pool and other fun stuff.
