Travel, I'll take all I can get please!

As the daughter of a military officer I grew up traveling and have had the bug since I was a child. I love to travel - anywhere, any time. Somehow I think my parents did me an injustice by taking me all over the place only to drop me into adulthood without the income to support my wanderlust. I can't complain though, I've lived in different countries and got a real chance to experience some of their wonderful culture. We moved every three years and I think it afforded me not only the opportunity to become well-rounded as far as life experiences go but also very adaptable. It's a little hard for me to understand why parents don't want to move their children from their school their entire life. I'm really grateful that I got to experience the joys of traveling from infancy on. Oh well, since I'm not a parent, I won't begin to understand why it's not good for a child to move. We know they have a tough enough job without me throwing my 2 cents in!

Currently, I'm planning a trip England and Amsterdam, Netherlands for this October, 2000. Two weeks in England and one week in Amsterdam. Last year I went to Italy and Spain. That was a fun three week trip that started in Rome. I went down to the southern tip of Italy and toured that wonderful area. I met some of the nicest people in Southern Italy but you haven't lived until you've tried to tell an Italian you don't drink. Wine is the fruit of the gods there. From Southern Italy, I went to Florence. I loved the city, the art but do not rent a car there. I took mine back. After Italy, I headed to Southern Spain and stayed in a beautiful place in Marbella. Took many tours to the surrounding areas which included Gibralter and Morocco. I did a lot of power shopping on this trip - so much so that I had to ship some of the items back mid-trip. The best part of travel is experiencing the different cultures though. I can't think of many things more interesting. I typically travel by myself. People think I'm crazy but I love it.

I do so much research when I travel, I want to share with you what I find. Also, I belong to a travel-dykes email list and there are always great suggestions there. I've added the suggestions under the appropriate links. My goal is to make this a very useful and helpful travel page. If you have some great suggestions, send them to me! Places to go as well as places to stay away from.

If you don't see a state or country listed, it's because I don't have any info to share *yet*.

If you are a AAA member , they have a web site for travel services and they will provide trip planners, etc.

Hotel Web Sites

I haven't tried their service yet but it sounds good. Sixty-five percent off of hotel rates.

I just sent for their book. It was listed on Frommers Page. They have listing for campus rooms you can stay at during the summer when students are away. Would I rather stay in the Hilton, well yes. But I would rather travel more frequently than I currently do so a dorm room in England sounds just fine to me if that's what gets me there.

Travel Reservation Sites

I have tried this site and was happy with the service. Check out Travelocity. They send your airline tickets right to your home.

Here are some more travel sites that I haven't personally checked out but hear they are good.
