I lived in N.Z. for 11yrs. and here's what to expect of the weather in Aug. and Sept. That's very early spring/late winter so cold and rainy still with bouts of sunshine and gusty weather and spring lambs everywhere - a beautiful N.Z. scene. I should say for the North Island. The South Island will be even colder, but beautiful.

I lived on Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf 30 min. ferry ride from Auckland. Lot's of homestays and B & B's. Call the Waiheke Island Tourism Board and just point blank tell them you want a place run by lesbians if there is one. This wouldn't shock them. Gays and lesbians everywhere running the restaraunts and cafes. Waiheke is great. Lot's of lovely cafes and the gay scene along Ponsonby Road in Auckland. Nothing like Sydney. Aucklands just not as big. No great big cities in N.Z.
