Well another month has gone by and we have a couple of great events coming up; a nice Bar-B-Que and pool party, a Rehoboth trip and finally Convergence 2004. Yours truly attended the West Coast conference in Long Beach California. They had about 160 full time participants and probably over 200 people at certain events. The Long Beach Hilton Rooms were very nice and the food was tolerable, no Grand Hyatt. I had a nice time and the Long Beach staff should be commended for putting on a good conference; it was their first. A couple of things annoyed some people e.g., on the last night, chasing everybody out of the Hospitality suite at 2:00 am. And then, chasing every body from the floor when the people moved from the Hospitality suite to the in hall table and chairs. Even if alcohol could no-longer be served, they could have extended the time on the last evening. Almost all other clubs have provided this service. Long Beach G& M is also planning to bid on the next West Coast Conference. A lot of the buzz at the conference seemed to question whether or not we were really going to New Orleans for Convergence 2005 during Southern Decadence. We’ll find out at Convergence 2004. Till next month, hugs R.

If you were not at the Embassy Suites in Old Town Alexandria on June 19th, you missed what was probably the best social we have had in a long time. Twenty-four men showed up, approximately 8 of them who either rarely attend our socials or have never done so. This turn of events was all thanks to Joe L. sending an email to every man who is listed on BiggerCity.com in the Virginia/DC/Maryland area. Thanks, Joe for a great idea!!! Problem is we will now expect you to do this every month! Thanks also have to go to Greg T, a visitor from Princeton, NJ. He had us all laughing and thinking with his book of questions. These questions were supposed to let everyone in the room get to know each other better. And they sure did. Thanks, Greg!!!

I have to thank Joe W, Rich Z, Ken S, Frank L, and John M for helping make this club big and better. Their input during our monthly Board of Director’s meetings is invaluable. Want to see first hand what we are doing for your club? Why not plan on attending one? They are open to club members and your input during the meeting will be greatly appreciated.

Next month’s social is going to be a blast. We have managed to get access to my condo’s clubhouse and private use of the pool. And what would a pool party be without a BBQ. For more details, look elsewhere in this newsletter for time and location.

Many of you are helping the club save money and time by allowing us to e-mail the newsletter to you. If you are interested in this type of delivery, please let us know what format works best for you (Word or WordPerfect) and give us your e-mail address. This way you will get the newsletter as soon as it is finished each month and don’t have to worry about missing a great social because the USPS lost your copy.

Also at the last Board of Director’s meeting, we finalized plans for a club weekend in Rehoboth at a bed and breakfast. Look for a separate mailing with details on this great deal!

Board's Meeting Minutes - 6/19/04

  1. Discussed the possibility of getting a PDF Writer in order to ease the e-mailing of newsletters and the uploading of newsletters to the club web site.
  2. Finalized plans for the club’s weekend in Rehoboth.
  3. Finalized plans for the July social at Jim Edwards’ clubhouse/pool. Decided to charge but also provide a full BBQ. Also decided that this would be a great social to advertise in the Washington Blade.
  4. Finalized a social schedule till the end of 2004

July Social - BBQ/Pool Party in Lorton, VA

Our July social will be held at Jim Edwards’ clubhouse and pool in Lorton, VA. We will be serving a full BBQ with ribs, burgers, hot dogs, chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, watermelon and Margaritas! In addition to the food, we will have access to the community pool for our use only.

Lately we have not been charging our members to attend our socials, but since we are providing a ton of food, we will be going back to the fee structure of $5 for members, $9 for returning guests. First time guests are still free.

So get out your swim suits (yes, sorry, swim trunks are mandatory) and your bathing cap and come get wet in Lorton!! (Be sure to bring a towel, too) The fun starts at 6 PM for the BBQ and 8 PM for the pool.

Directions:
From All Directions Since ALL Roads lead to Lorton: Take I-95 South to Exit 163 (Lorton). At the end of the ramp make a right. At the first light make a right on Silverbrook Rd. Then make a left on Royal Robin. The clubhouse and pool are on Royal Robin on the left (you can’t miss it). If you need assistance, call Jim Edwards’ cell phone at 571-338-6596.
