The President's Corner
by Joe L.

The October social went really well. We had 10 people show up at the Embassy Suites in Crystal City, four of whom were from DC. We ordered pizza and talked and laughed and got to know each other. It was fun and the Embassy Suites was very accommodating.

In November our social will be at Jaybee’s house in Bristow, VA beginning at 7pm. Bristow is just west of Manassas off of I-95 close to Nissan Pavilion. The club will be providing a turkey dinner in honor of Thanksgiving so bring your appetite and bring a friend. The social fee for the November social will be:

  • Members - $5.00
  • Non-Members - $9.00
  • First-time Guests – FREE

We still don’t have anybody to host the December social.on the 3rd Saturday of December which is the 16th. Come on, guys. We need you to host a social. If you would like to volunteer to host the December social, or any social, you can contact us by email at girthnmirthdc@hotmail.com or by phone at 703-971-5868 before 9pm. There are a few advantages to hosting:

  1. You don’t have to leave your house! We will come to you.
  2. You don’t have to bear the whole burden by yourself. We will come over and help you set up for the social and help you clean up afterwards.
  3. The Club will pay you $100 for the inconvenience of using your home.

There are just a few requirements for hosting:

  1. You need to have enough room to host at least 10 people in your home.
  2. There must be adequate parking within walking distance of your home or you must be within walking distance of a Metro station.
  3. You must allow the Board of Directors to hold a Board meeting in your home one hour before the social begins.

See? Nothing to it! So consider having a social in your home, if not in December, then sometime in 2007. The socials are always on the 3rd Saturday of the month so you can plan when to host around that. Remember, this is your Club and it will be as good or as bad as its members make it. Let’s make 2007 a really great year!! NOTE: As has been our practice for the past few years, we will not be having a social in January. We usually have very low attendance in January for a variety of reasons: bad weather, too soon after the holidays, close to Martin Luther King’s holiday, etc…

Upcoming Socials

The following is a list of socials for 2006 and dates for the socials for 2007 for the G&M Club of Washington, DC. As always, we are looking for people to host a social in their home. We will pay the host $100 to host a social, come over and set up for the social and clean up afterward. The only requirements are that you can accommodate approximately 10 people in your home and have enough parking for 10 cars. If you would like to host a social, you may contact Joe W. at 703-971-5868 any day before 9pm and let us know which month you would like to host and what kind of party you would like to have (snacks, potluck dinner, Halloween, New Year’s Eve, or other theme-type of party). You can also contact us by sending an email to G&M of Washington, DC.
