Manfred's Meadow Guest House

Part of our home was a guest house in the country just 90 minutes north west of Toronto. We have sold the property so we'll be moving out in the new year.

Here is condensed version of the brochure we used to send out. Send me E-mail if you want to know where we moved. We are hoping to open up a bed-and-breakfast in the near future and will post info here when we're ready to go..

All our visitors love Manfred's Meadow. It's a relaxing place ... a retreat where they can do whatever they like ... or nothing at all ...

The main farmhouse is over 100 years old, but cleverly renovated to include modern luxuries without destroying the country ambience. Want to take a quick tour?

Inside the house.

We'll begin in the heart of the house, the kitchen with pine walls and cupboards and floor to ceiling windows to the south. At any time of year the aroma of fresh-brewed coffee, tasty honey-glazed chicken, or newly baked bread ... raisin, whole-grain, or the famous sunflower loaf ... wafts from this room. On cold winter days there might be a pot of homemade soup simmering on the old-fashioned Elmira Oval cookstove, its gleaming nickel casting a warm glow in this part of the house. [Tour menu]

Dinners are served at a 14-foot long hand-crafted pine table in the adjoining dining room one wall of which is formed by the solarium. While food is being served, you can admire the pine furniture in the room or glance outside and see a multitude of birds at their feeding stations.

With its eleven skylights and floor to ceiling windows the solarium is a perfect place to watch the sun rise, the moon set, or the snow fly. In fact this has become the favourite gathering place for Manfred's Meadows guests. Should there be a lull in the conversation, Manfred can be counted on to talk about the secrets of his orchids or the habits of the bees. The solarium is also a favourite place for breakfasts and a chance to sample farm-made preserves and jams, fresh brown eggs from Manfred's Meadow's hens, or some honey from the farm's own beehives. [Tour menu]

Other rooms available to our guests include: the library with its hundreds of books, fireplace, television, videotapes, records, or compact discs; our quiet living room where you can participate in quiet indoor activities; and our recreation room with an exercise bicycle, a professional rowing machine, a 6-foot pine hot tub, a red cedar sauna, and a shower big enough for two.

Choose your bedroom.

Guests can stay in one of eight double rooms. The three bedrooms in the barn have rustic pine walls and ceilings ... available in spring, fall, and summer.

The cosy farmhouse bedrooms and the three bedrooms added to the west part of the house ... all have double beds, one with a waterbed.

In the west wing each room has a private entrance from an outdoor balcony and an indoor entrance next to two guest bathrooms. [Tour menu]

Outside the house.

Sun decks surround the house: a second floor walkway on two sides of the house, and an outdoor breakfast and barbecue area on the main floor. Face south, east, or west, depending on the weather.

We also have our very own 16-foot-deep freshwater lake dug on the grounds about a five-minute walk from the house. It has become the best place to go during hot summer afternoons. Here you can sunbathe in the grass or on the lakeside deck, swim in the cool spring water, or just watch the birds. [Tour menu]

For guests who like the outdoors, there's a lot to enjoy in and around Manfred's Meadow. Walking trails wind through the fields giving you a chance to see our contribution to the environment: more than 50,000 trees planted on our 100 acres. Private sunning is available, as well as areas for badminton, kite-flying, or cross-country skiing. Our gazebo is a favourite place for intimate chats ... day or night.

Just south of the farm there's a marsh and conservation area ... the perfect place for an early morning walk with your camera. And the infrequently travelled country roads provide many kilometres for a run that's free of the exhaust fumes that plague city joggers. [Tour menu]

Trips in the neighbourhood can take you to a soaring club, the Hockley Valley Ski Club ... for downhill or cross-country skiing on supervised trails, the local bingo parlour ... for a chance at the jackpot, the Orangeville Raceway ... if you like to wager, or the Luther Marsh ... a bird and wildlife sanctuary. Also close at hand are a variety of craft and antique shops, the Fergus Flea Market, golf courses, windsurfing areas, tennis courts, and a maple sugar bush.

Whatever the season, we'll give you a reason to come visit our part of the world. And we'll make your stay as comfortable as we can. We want you to come back again and again. [Tour menu]

Bring a good appetite.

We are an all-inclusive resort: all meals, snacks, and soft drinks are included in our rates. We are known for our personal service and ample home-cooked meals. Coffee is always available ... even if you need your caffeine fix very early in the morning.

Full-week stays include a hearty breakfast, an afternoon tea, and a supper daily. Weekend stays include Friday evening supper; a hearty breakfast, an afternoon tea, and dinner on Saturday; a full breakfast on Sunday with coffee and cake in the afternoon. No guest has ever left hungry! [Tour menu]

We don't have a license and can't provide alcoholic beverages, but we have installed guest refrigerators filled with complimentary ice, juice and soft drinks. Please bring your own wine and beer ... mixes are on us.

For your own peace of mind ... and that of our other guests, we suggest you leave your pets at home. For your better health, ours is a smoke-free home. Smoking is permitted on the grounds. [Tour menu]

We're now closed for business. See us at our new location on Georgian Bay.
