In September 1997 my friend Rosemary called me to see if I would
help her drive a truck with her to Indiana, because she was moving there
to be closer to her family. I had vacation time coming up, so I said
"sure". Then I started thinking, and piped up "That means you'll need
to sell your house, right?"
That was a Thursday. On the following
Monday her ex-husband called me. He's still
Rose's realtor of choice, and he said "If you want it, let me know, otherwise
I'm putting it on the market." The next night, I signed the purchase
agreement.
The rest of the process was pretty smooth, I guess. Having never
bought a house before, I had no idea what to expect. But about 4 1/2 weeks later,
we were all there signing eleventy million pieces of paper, and I walked
out with a mortgage and a house.
Three bedrooms, no basement, detached garage, and a deck off the back of the
house; a typical suburban house with very little in the back yard
besides grass so far.
It's in nice condition, and I didn't have to do anything before I moved in
besides shampoo the carpets.
The house was warmed quite nicely the week after I moved in, in November, with
a music jam session. It has been great being here for the holidays too.
I have more photos trapped in the camera. When I update this page next, I'll
even have photos of the back of the house!
Thanks to Joe and Terry (yes, the ones who did the haircut), who took these
photos with their digital camera when they visited from Phoenix in December.
That's Joe on the front porch with me.
