Charlie, Nov. 99

That's me, taken very recently by my friend Leslie Frederick (singer, songwriter, photographer, author... a renaissance woman to be sure) at Dodge Park in Sterling Heights, Mich, in November 1999. We were taking pictures of each other for our music promotional packs, and having a lot of fun to boot.

Notice I actually have hair... if you saw the story of the big haircut, perhaps you despaired of me ever having hair again. Or perhaps you hoped I'd never become a damn hippie freak again. Sorry to disappoint everyone, but I intend to assert my freedom to have hair or not have hair as I wish. It's the one area in which I consistently pissed my parents off when I was younger, and I think one should stick to something one's successful at.

Perhaps that last paragraph came off as bellicose or defensive. Sometimes that sort of thing gets me in trouble. I probably should be a bit more careful, but sometimes I just lose my head.

Actually, I still have it. The photo is actually from the Michigan Renaissance Festival in September 1999, where they had an executioner ready to chop your head off for a dollar. Friends took the photo. It's unknown whether they wished the executioner had used a sharper blade.

Charlie in the train yard, 1996 If nothing else, I have a lot of friends in my life who are handy with a camera. Some of them are even professionals. Paul Kubek is a professional based in Detroit who not only photographs weddings beautifully but also has photographed famous people such as Governor John Engler and Vice President Al Gore, and he's won awards for his work. Just for fun, in 1996 we went to the abandoned Michigan Central train station in Detroit and burned some film together. This is one of me waiting for a train. I'll have a long wait, I guess.
