What is it like being gay in Gothenburg? Well, I'm probably not the right person to answer that, as I'm not really a frequent user of the gay scene in Gothenburg. But I'll do my best, and give you some links to other sites on the subject.

Gothenburg, with more than half a million people, cannot boast a thriving, mega gay scene, but has a few places where open-minded people can meet. It seems that the gay clubs and discotheques here nowadays tend to last only for a short while until another place pops up. One exception is the pub/discotheque run by RFSL Gothenburg, a branch of the Swedish gay organization. It recently moved to a new location, though. Find out more in the list below. It is in no way meant to be complete, or even guaranteed to be accurate. Just a few tips on where to go when you want to have some fun in Gothenburg. RFSL also runs Göteborg Gay Radio at FM 103.9 MHz. (Sunday and Monday nights, 8 - 9 p.m.).

As in any other city, it is wise to be cautious and not flaunt your homosexuality when walking around certain areas at night, however much you'd like to. There have been some gay-bashings and other assaults, but I don't think it's any worse than anywhere else in Scandinavia. Use your common sense, and enjoy what Gothenburg has to offer!

* Léche - Gothenburg's club for lesbians - has closed for the summer, but will re-open on August 28.
