Information on the situation for homosexuals in the Czech Republic: Legal According to §217 of the Czech Criminal Law you may not intend to seduce anybody to an idle or immoral life-style. I don't know what that means - you tell me! Anyways, gay life in this western half of former Czechoslovakia has improved since the revolution nearly ten years ago. Homosexuality is legal, and the age of consent the same for all. Prague has a large gay scene with lots of bars and clubs etc. When I was there in 1991, gay porn magazines were sold openly by street vendors. There still was a fairly big black market for "anything". I'm sure this has calmed down by now and become more clean and organized.

I'm very impressed with the Czech success story of the 90's. From being an "obscure little country" behind the Iron Curtain, it has become one of Europe's major tourist targets, and Prague has functioned as a magnet for youth from all over the world. Škoda (the car manufacturer) is no longer a "dirty word" but a well recognized make under the Volkswagen umbrella. And most importantly, democracy seems to have been firmly rooted in this beautiful country of castles and ...beer!
