Information on the situation for homosexuals
in Denmark:
Legal+
Denmark was the first country
in the world to allow homosexual couples to marry, in 1989! It's called
"registered partnership" and can only be sealed as a civil marriage.
Church weddings are not yet officially possible. The registered partnership
gives the couple all the same rights as a traditional marriage, with the
exception of adopting children and the possibility of obtaining artificial
insemination. Now, seven countries and territories in all have introduced
similar laws: Denmark, Norway, Greenland, Sweden, Iceland, Hungary,
and the Netherlands.
Homosexuality is generally
well accepted in Denmark. Denmark is traditionally a very open and tolerant
society towards anyone a little bit "different", even more so than the
other Scandinavian countries. This liberal attitude seems to be somewhat
changing now, as extreme right wing attitudes are surfacing here, as in
most other parts of Europe. It is more important than ever for everyone
to come out and stand up for our rights.
The fight is not over!
