Information on the situation for homosexuals in Germany:

Legal

Homosexuality is widely accepted in Germany, especially in the former West Germany. Several organizations and parties are campaigning for a registered partnership law in Germany. Prostitution is legal and there are gay brothels in all major cities. Berlin is considered by some to be the gay capital of Europe, possibly second only to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Sexual orientation has been accepted as a grounds for political asylum.

During the past few years since the reunification of West and East Germany, right wing influences and nazism is growing, especially in the east. This is very alarming, and leading the trend in most parts of Western Europe. Many Eastern Germans, not familiar with democracy, are easily sucked into the propaganda of the extreme right. Déjà vu?!
