Legal
Homosexuality was legalized in 1992. Actually, Latvia reportedly never made lesbian sex illegal during the Soviet occupation. In 1998, the age of consent was equalized for homosexual and heterosexual acts.
Since 1997, persecuted homosexuals may seek asylum in Latvia, in accordance with the UN 1951 Convention.

Sexual relations with persons under the age of 16 is punished with up to four years imprisonment.
