Legal Homosexuality is legal in Liberia. I have not been able to find any detailed information. Liberia is a war torn country which has seen some of the worst crimes against humanity this century. The civil war started in 1990. Travel to Liberia is still not recommended, especially outside of the capital Monrovia. Shootings, robberies, and looting still occur; some describe the situation as anarchy. Large portions of the population are still refugees. Expect to pay bribes wherever you go. Atevo Travel (see link below) even recommend that you bring a flashlight to the Immigration Office. If you don’t you will have to pay for the candles used to light the room where your travel documents are processed! Established in 1822, the Republic of Liberia is the oldest democracy on the African continent. Much of the population are descendants of North American slaves who were bought free in the early 19th century. New elections were held in 1997, and hopefully Liberians may see some peace and the rebuilding of a democratic country. If you have any further information
on the current situation in Liberia, please contact
me.
