Is there a country called Melchizedek, you ask. Well, probably not, I say. Melchizedek is, however, the name given to the Karitane Island and Taongi Atoll more than 160 kms south of the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. It is a self proclaimed microstate. I have not found any information on the "country" except for the official link below. Melchizedek is named after a priest-king in the Old Testament of the Bible who supposedly foreshadowed Christ. Why do I include information on Melchizedek here among the Eastgarden Countries? While Melchizedek has not been recognized by (m)any countries as an independent state, it is still a separate territory to which certain laws apply that might influence the human rights of homosexuals who might find themselves there, so I do think it is appropriate to include it here.
