Illegal Homosexuality is illegal and legally deemed "unnatural" in Nepal. In 1993, however, the gay organization "Nepal Queer Society" was established in Kathmandu. In July 1998, two women, 24 and 16 years old, got married in the Nawalparasi district. They were first arrested after being reported by their parents, but were later released, as, ironically, there are no laws against same-sex marriage in Nepal. Nepal has always been a dividing line between cultures and civilizations, and a cross-roads for commerce and culture. The official religion is Hindu, though Buddhism is an important religion; Buddha is believed to have been born in southern Nepal. Multiparty democracy was re-introduced in 1990. It was also tried during the 1950's but the king considered the parliamentary system unsuited to Nepalese conditions. If you have any further information
