? No information on the status of homosexuality on the Pitcairn Islands was found. The only inhabited island is Pitcairn, with about 50 inhabitants, descendants of the Bounty mutineers and their Tahitian wives. The islands have their own Constitution and by-laws. Most people adhere to the Seventh Day Adventist faith. Visitors planning to land and stay in the Islands must first obtain from the office of the Commissioner for Pitcairn Island in New Zealand a licence to land and reside there. One may charter boats to go there from French Polynesia, but this is very expensive, so the most common means of transport are transport vessels on their way from Australia to North America. Intending residents and short term visitors should be willing to fit in with the life-style of the community and would be expected to comply with the customs of the island as conscience allows. Mail to Pitcairn may take several weeks, and there is only one central radio-telephone. If you have any further information

Suffrage is 18 after three years' residency. Further information on Pitcairn can be found at: Official Pitcairn Island Government Site |
