Illegal Homosexuality is illegal in the United States dependency of Puerto Rico's Penal Code's Article 103, punishable with up to ten years' prison terms for sodomy. This law is rarely enforced, though. Lesbians cannot be prosecuted for the act of sodomy as they lack a "virile member", but may be prosecuted for other "offences". In 1998, the U.S. Federal District Court for Puerto Rico struck down a disciplinary rule that forbade Puerto Rican police officers from associating with homosexuals.
