Amsterdam, The Netherlands
From the 14th until the 15th of September 1999, I was in Amsterdam with a very good friend of mine (David).
While in Amsterdam, we stayed at the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky. It could not have been more central - right on Dam Square, opposite the palace.
The hotel room was huge; the bathroom was amazing, and the view would have been stunning if the weather was good.
On Dam Square was Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. We didn't get time to go in.
Here's a typical picture of what Amsterdam is like, except for the lack of bikes in the shot. It seems like every Amsterdam resident owns a bike - they outnumber cars here, I've been told.
Here's a neat photo from the cafe where we had lunch one day. The older buildings are sandwiched between eachother and sometimes it looks as if they are slanty.
The newer buildings (there are quite a few around the place) are really well designed and not at all displeasing to the eye. They use nice colors and lots of glass. I don't think the photo does this one justice.
And here's a photo of one of the many many canals that run between the street. When you go for a walk in Amsterdam, you go over so many bridges all the time that you actually get the impression that the city is hilly, even though it is totally flat.
