What have you been up to...?
Archive - November 1998 - June 1999
Wednesday 18th November 1998 - Got up at 3:30am and went with Philip (flatmate) to go to Cheltenham Beach, Saw some meteorites as part of the Leonid Storm. Kinda neat. Cold though.
Friday 20th November 1998 - Went to see Grease - featuring Dannii Minogue.
Saturday 21st November 1998 - Went to a house-warming fireworks party.
Saturday 5th December - Janet Jackson concert - it was AWESOME!!
Sunday 6th December - started studying properly for my Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) qualification.
Saturday 12th December - bored, so invited David around and we watched Star Trek: Generations on DVD, then got really excited because I talked to Simon for ages using "SpeakEasy" phone software for the web. Awesome quality and really, really cheap. Got an ICQ number - 25514326.
Sunday 13th December - updating web page.
Monday 14th December - Brad and Aaron back from Australia.
Thursday 31st December - Went to Donald and Mark's for drinkies. Watched Kylie and Jason videos!!! Went to Legends and waited for the countdown. At 12:05, someone realised it was New Year's, so they had a countdown after-the-fact (must be running on "fag-time").
Friday 1st January 1999 - New Years resolution - update the journal more frequently.
Friday 8th January - Went to a restaurant (nameless as I don't want to get sued) and had the steak. Asked for medium to well-done, but came out sorta black. Never going there again for a meal. Either that or I'll ask for it rare.
January to March - Knew it wouldn't take long. Neglected my New Year's Resolution.
Monday 19th March - Sat and passed my first MCSE exam (070-058 Networking Essentials)
Monday 3rd May - Resigned from my position as Network Development Analyst at Auckland City to leave for Germany.
Monday 10th May - Simon arrives back in the country. He has been in Germany since November 1998.
Wednesday 26th May - Last day at work.
Thursday 27th May - move out of apartment. *SOB*
Friday 28th May - Left the country bound for Los Angeles on QF 101 @ 22:45. Arrived in LA at 15:35 the same day (it's awesome living on the other side of the International Dateline)
Saturday 29th May - DISNEYLAND!!!!! Need I say more?
Sunday 30th May - Met up with Andrew Nestler (Madonna fan and nice guy too!) Went shopping (as you do). Left Los Angeles on BA 268 @ 20:50 bound for London.
Monday 31st May - Arrived in London at 15:10. Spent 5 hours in transit in London. Saw the Concorde take off. YAY! Left for Frankfurt on BA 914 @ 20:25. Got to Germany at 22:55.
Tuesday 1st June - Summer begins! Staying at Hotel Thielen near the Hauptbahnhof. DM80 per night. No toilet or shower in our room.
Wednesday 2nd June - Moved into Hotel Mueller across the road from the Hotel Thielen. Better rooms! DM125 per night. Started looking for an apartment with Simon.
Monday 7th June - Simon starts back at work. It's up to me now to find an apartment. Getting frustrated at lack of good living options.
Tuesday 8th June - Found an apartment in the suburb of Ehrenfeld. Great transport connections for Simon to go to work. $1350 per month (incl. heating, water and electricity)
Wednesday 9th June - Move into the new apartment.
Monday 14th June - Met this really neat lady from New York called Gloria at the Surf Inn where I've been collecting my email.
Wednesday 16th June - Saw "Die Mumie" (The Mummy) in German with Gloria. Quite a neat movie.
Thursday 19th June - FINALLY got a working phone line at home (and therefore an Internet connection). In my opinion, Deutsche Telekom is the WORST company I have EVER dealt with. SOOOOOO inefficient, and they LIED to us about when things would be done.
20th June - Went to Duesseldorf to see "Die Mumie" yet again. Met Simon's friends Frank (the second German Frank we've met) and Horst.
Thursday 24th June - Went to the taping of the German version of Top of the Pops. Most notable performers were Sasha and Andru Donald, and Passionfruit.
Friday 25th June - Met Tom, Frank (third one!) and Thilo at Schulz. Tom is a Madonna fan like me and we get along really well. Frank's a great guy too. Tom's boyfriend, Marc, couldn't make it along tonight.
Wednesday 30th June - Sat and passed my second MCSE exam (070-067 Windows NT Server 4.0). Can now call myself a MCP. Updated CV to reflect this.
