The Web Word Search FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Here are answers and links to some of the most frequently asked questions that I get here at the Web Word Search Plus.  If you don't see an answer for your question here, please e-mail me.  And thanks for visiting the Web Word Search Plus!

Q: Nothing happens when I click on the letters in the word search puzzles.
A: That's because you have to print out the puzzles in order to work on them.   They're not Java or Shockwave games, silly!

Q: Oh.  Well, why don't you have them in Java or something so people can do the puzzles online?
A: Well, I'm not a programmer, so that's one reason.  There are some Java word search applets out there, but those I've seen just make a puzzle based on a given word list (which isn't bad at all).  But I like to add a hidden message, and other special things like the Heads or Tails word searches.  Someday I hope to add some Java word searches, so maybe someday!

Q: Do you give out the answers to the word searches and mazes?
A: No, mostly because the images needed to do that would take up too much space.   I'm only allowed so much disk space at GeoCities.  Most puzzles are easy enough.  I've tested them myself, but if you find an error (which is possible!) then e-mail me!

Q: Do you respond to e-mails?
A: Well, I really try to.  I certainly mean to.  But sometimes when things are hectic I get a little negligent.  So I'll try to e-mail back to all responses, but if I don't please don't take it personal!

Q: How often do you make new puzzles?
A: That's a good question, and I wish I had a good answer!  My time management skills are exceedingly poor, so I never seem to get to do all that I want to do.  All I can say is just check by every now and then when you're in the mood to do a puzzle and see!

Q: Can I use or reprint your puzzles for my newsletter/website/whatever?
A: Yes, feel free to use my puzzles for anything you like, as long as it's for something free.  If you want to try to make some money with them somehow, at least give me a share of the profits!  ;)  If you're a puzzle magazine and want to reprint my word searches or mazes, please e-mail me!

Q: Do you make custom puzzles for people?  For businesses and/or magazines?
A: For people, no, sorry, I have a hard enough time finding time to make puzzles for this site, let alone for anyone else!  Check out the next question, though...   However, if you're a business or magazine that wants a custom puzzle, please e-mail me and we can work out a rate!

Q: Do you know of any software that creates Word Searches and other puzzles?
A: Yes, there are a couple that look really great.  The ones I've seen are shareware, and usually require registration to unlock the full program.  But you can usually download a demo version first.  Take a look at these sites:
Word Search Construction Kit (word search and crossword programs available)
Across Lite (The web's most popular crossword program, and it's awesome & free!)
Delphi Crossword (crossword puzzle solvers, compilers, designers, and more)
Word Splash Pro (Word search puzzle creation software)
Logic Assistant (logic problem assistant program)
Mindhammer (maze generator programs - freeware!)
Think Labyrinth! (maze generator and maze applet creator and more!)
If you know of any other cool puzzle software, please e-mail me!

Q: Some of your mazes are too big to fit on one page.  Help!
A: Yeah, sorry about that!  I make my mazes using Corel Draw, and sometimes when exporting as GIF images they do funny things and don't look exactly right.  Especially my newest maze, the Chinese Lattic Maze, turned out as a huge GIF when I exported it, but it looks the best (it wasn't warped by the export filter as much).  I suggest you copy the maze (right-click and select "Copy" or "Save As" and then paste the maze into another program, like Microsoft Word or Paint Shop Pro.  There usually the image can be scaled to print on one page.  I hope in the future I can fix this problem.

Q: I don't see the answer to my question here.  What do I do?
A: E-mail me of course!  I'll do my best to answer.  And thanks to you and everyone who visited the WWS over the years.  Happy puzzling!
